4th Gen Dual Tip Catback Options

So after wading through thousands of posts about exhausts today, I am quite dissapointed at my potential options for a aftermarket catback system with dual tips.

I want a stock looking (round dual tip, not DTM) aftermarket catback system, that is not excessively loud. So far, the only one that seems to meet that criteria is the dual tip thermal available only for the 5th gens. I've heard that DC and Tanabe offer DTM exhausts, but I have not seen pics of them so I'm not sure if they mean DTM is "dual tip" or the European boxy curved up look, which I dislike. Either way, it seems the majority of the people who have / have had these say they are very loud, annoyingly so.

So the question remains, as a 4th gen owner am I SOL if I'm looking for a stock looking aftermarket catback that puts out a decent sound? Any other options? (besides custom).

Check ebay, there are tons. Buy the muffler and go custom piping although who knows what the sounds will come out like. Or, maybe find a used Apexi RS catback - I think those were dual tipped.

I also am in the same situation. I want the 5gen Thermal on my 4g. Today I was searching through posts and I came across this post for puting a 5g thermal on 4g-

http://preludeonline.com/showthread....t+swap+5th+gen

After reading that I figure whats the point in doing so much work for a dual tip thermal when the single tip looks good also. Check it out here-
http://preludeonline.com/showthread....threadid=91537

So I'm going to order the single tip thermal. Hey I had another idea you might want to check into. Maybe get the axel-back thermal for the 5g, and get the intermediate pipe for the 4g and just fit them together. Might need some modifications but seems do-able. If you do get it to fit- Post Pics Please.

Thanks for the replies guys. I checked out the Apex'i RS and that thing is huge. Dual 4" tips is probably a little big for me.

I'm not so sure I'd like to go through the trouble to fit the 5th gen thermal on the 4th gen. If I'm going to be welding pipes together and such, I might as well just go custom at that point.

Anyone else know of a non-custom catback w/ dual tips? I'm pretty much convinced there isnt one.

Well custom muffler with a 'new' stock intermediate pipe also seems cool. I saw this flowmaster dual tip that I thought would look hella cool on my lude the other day. Well anyway good luck I'm ordering my thermal today.

Good luck with your Thermal. Post some pics after you get it on and maybe you can sway me to single tip

Well it doesnt look like I'm going to find a complete catback system with a duel tip, so I will probably opt for a Magnaflow with a nice duel tip. My car currently has some custom piping (from when I bought it)...but it is all ghetto rigged. The piping is mandrel bent but it doesnt seem to be a consistent size all the way through. It ranges anywhere between 2.5 - 2.25 with a crush bent pipe at the very end. I guess it doesnt really matter, but for some reason it bothers me that it isnt consistent and that changes in the velocity could possibly affect flow characteristics and alter the sound.

Check out Brullen exhausts for some nice stock looking dual tip units. Good quality stuff too.

H22A, i have a used dual tip brullen cat-back exhaust that i'm trying to sell. Check out www.brullenexhaust.com if you want to find out more details about their exhausts. My exhaust has 2- 3" angle cut tips and is fully stainless but it's painted black. Email me if you're interested.

Thanks,
Tom
