4th gen/5th gen head

So from my previous post I told you guys that I might need to buy a new head considering my timing belt frayed on the highway and now the valves have been bent. I was just wondering if there is a difference between a 5th gen h22 head and a 4th gen? Can I put a 5th gen head on my 4th gen JDM engine?

If it's just the head, yes you can. The difference between the 4th & 5th gen heads are tiny and not important. (different LMA's and supposedly different cam profiles between base & sh heads. dunno if that was ever confirmed though)

Executive moderator? Ouch! j/k!

The open/closed deck is for the block, not the head. Like Exodus mentioned, slight differences, but as far as bolting up, it will fit. I have an a4 head on my a1 block due to a few bent valves as well.

well i think this helps me out alot for my search for a new head. Is there a preference of either, or are the differences so small that it make no difference?

There is no preference, other than finding one in good condition for a cheap price.

I have an A4 head on my A1 block also due to timing belt snap. Didn't even need it either... bought it before I even looked at the valves in the A1... perfect.
