4bidden short shifter install question

ok how the **** do i get the 4 nuts off at the base of the stock shifter? I cant get to them with anything because the space is so tight...i tried removing the 4 bolts with the giant washers on them but that didnt help cause i couldnt get the left rod seperated from that little thing that sits to the left of the stick. Help needed ASAP.

You need to take the whole shifter assy out of the car to install it. The left shift cable has a cotter pin holding it on. You need to bend this straight, careful because you need to reuse it, and pull it out. Then take out the four bolts holding the shifter base to the car and remove the two clips that hold the two shifter cables to the base. Now the whole base should lift out. Take it to the workbench and go frolm there.

Check 4bidden's old post, he put up instructions.

Going by this diagram...

1. Unbolt #23 (The four bolts with big washers that hold down the plate.
2. Then take off the #22 clips that hold the shift linkage cables in place.
3. Unbolt the main shift linkage (large one connected to front of shifter).
4. Then unbolt #38 (the bolt that goes through the pivot ball area)
5. Then unbolt #37 (which hold the support plates on the bottom of the shifter, that keep the pivot ball and such in the bottom of the shifter)
6. Then remove #18, which is the little metal square that attaches to the shift lever. It is hard to get off, I used a flathead screwdriver placed in the grooves on the square.
7. Transfer #18 onto the new shifter.
8. Transfer the pivot ball and everything else that came out of the bottom of the stock shifter, into the new shifter.
9. Bolt everything back ithe way you took it off.

Your done.

When I installed mine, I didn't even have to touch the left shift linkage. Besides getting the metal square transfered to the new shifter.

I used a flathead screwdriver to pry them off. They are on there pretty good. To get them back on I just put them in place, and banged them in with the other end of the screwdriver.

I know it seems rough, but it works.

I thought my little square thing was plastic too, so I thought I'd be able to knock it off with a tap of the wrench but when I did that, damn, it went pop. I only found one side of it. Just ordered it Tuesday from Honda. 5 bucks man....I just don't have the time to go look for this piece at the junk yard. Damn dealer prices.....ha.ha

Their talking about the little square thing on the side of the bottom of the shifter. The bushing on the select cable. He didn't pull it off right and busted it.

that stinks... When I was prying it off, I thought it was going to break. To get it back on the new shifter, I just put the square piece on the ground, lined up the shifter and smacked them together.

WOW! I'm surprised it's lasted this long sushi, I'd get it fixed asap.

Sorry about the breakage, but how did the shifter hold up? lol....you couldn't break it if you wanted to.

yeah i should get it tommorow (the 11th) the shifter held up fine and might I add that the craftsmanship looks better on the short shifter than on the stock one but damn all that shifter grease to hell...it stained my nails somewhat but its go away soon. I got word that the shifter will work without the plastic peice but it makes lateral movements of the shaft wobbly forcing yout o exaggerate shifts into 1st and 5th but im not about to put it toghether just to drive 10 miles to pick up the part and then have to take it apart again...ill save my knuckles and drive the Milenia to pick it up...so for now ill just have to dread my 25 dollar mistake...yes Honda charged me 20 bucks to overnight the beotch...what a rip, but i guess its ok since they told me there were only 2 available to them in the entire US (one in Ohio which i am getting and one in Cali)
