Does anyone know if this would be possible? I was at the junk yard a few days ago and was looking inside a 3rd gen and saw a perfectly fine steering wheel. I used to own a 3rd gen and I loved the way the steering wheel felt. I don't care much for the bulky 4th gen steering wheel. I know it's because of the airbag. But for 6 bucks, I was wondering if it would be possible to install a 3rd gen steering wheel into a 4th gen lude without major fabrication?
Well in that other post about the S2000 whell going onto the 4th gen, someone said that any honda wheel will fit any honda so based on that i would only see the airbag wire to be a problem. they could just be tied back most likely tho
Let us know how it goes- the 4th and 5th gens are incompatible, though the 5th and S2k are. I hear that the older (pre-2k1) Civics are compatible with the 4th gen, though... and I suspect the 3rd and 4th gen Preludes are compatible.
Hey guys, just thought I'd give you an update. I found that the steering column fits just fine, however, the back cover of the third gen steering wheel will need to be shaved and the steering ring has a plastic piece that sticks up into the wheel that the third gen doesn't have. Another thing too is that the horn and cruise control harnesses are different. Also without the airbag, the SRS light stays on. After shaving the plastic piece off the steering ring and shaving about a inch off the back cover of the third gen steering wheel, the steering wheel was able to slide right into place. I guess with some cutting and splicing, the cruise and horn should work just fine. I will have to look into this more.
intead of chopping up all your wiring to get it to work, splice it off the old harness... your gonna want to be able to bolt the old wheel back up with little trouble if you wanna be legal when you drive...

Inquiring minds want to know!
Didn't charlie put a s2k wheel on his car? I thought he did which would be odd that 4th and 5th are compatible but they both would be with the s2k wheel.

no it wasn't going to work. Read the end of his thread. (the one where he shows pics of it). I think he sold the wheel the next day.
for the original poster:
Have you checked out the earlier integra wheels (I think 90-92)? I think they are similar.
my brother has a 91 teg and i like his wheel a lot better...

First, the background: I originally imported a hub adapter for aftermarket wheels for the 5th gen a while back. For whatever reason I was under the impression that all airbag-equipped Preludes were the same hub... and that the non-airbag ones (I think '92 was the only 4th gen year) were different. It turns out it's not so.
ALL 4TH GENS APPEAR TO HAVE A SMALLER SHAFT DIAMETER. This means that 5th gen hub adapters and wheels just won't work. Since the S2k has the same hub size as the 5th gen... it won't work.
To top it off, the 4th gen uses some funky copper flex-ribbon cables inside the wheel for the cruise and SRS connectors. The SRS actually has the same connector (so a newer airbag would connect, electrically) but the cruise does not. Since it is a flex circuit it would be almost hopeless to try and solder to it, and the connector isn't anywhere close to the 5th gen or S2k ones.
Basically, it's hopeless. 4th gen owners have to get a different hub adapter (I hear a Civic one works) to use an aftermarket wheel. The s2k one won't work and it would take some serious cutting and welding to make it work. So much so it's just not worth it. You would almost inevitably have to lose the cruise control.
To top it off, I don't think the holes for the cable reel lined up. It might have worked, but it wasn't worth messing with!
