ah, i was in the same boat

seems like there is a greater aftermarket for the 4th gen than the 300zx.

300ZX: awesome looking, TT is FAST, rwd

prelude: good looking, fast enough, greater availability of aftermarket parts, good gas mileage (in most cases...)

seeing that ur so young, dont ur parents have a greater say in this issue than u do?

yea my parents have a big say in the whole thing but i think if i keep my grades up i should be ok either way when it comes time to make that decision. Its just the insurance that worries me about the 300zx. ahhhhhhhhhhhh i dont know they are both great cars

I too can relate. I love both cars. the 300zx was one of the first cars that I ever got to drive and is how I learned to drive manual. And the prelude well its just an all around great car. So what to do....... personally I would go with the Prelude. 1. its going to be cheaper for insurance. 2. you can still meet people of the opposite sex with the car. 3. Mods are going to be a little more available to you.

Though the 300zx 1. it is a lot faster 2. has just an awesome interior (love how it is all designed around the driver) 3. its a 300zx.

The insurance thing will kill you or your parents depending on who pays for it if you get the 300zx. So go with Prelude.

go with the prelude. maintenance is a lot easier. you're only 16 so get the prelude for now and when you get older and have more money, get a car with turbo or put turbo on your prelude.

I have to agree with ckchi. someday I would like to own an Audi A4. But why get something that you really want right away. Save the money and make that your goal, something to strive towards. So in the future you can possibly get the 350Z or whatever other car comes out at the time that you want. You have to have goals in life, otherwise life isnt fun. I have had to learn that the hard way. So make a goal to have that 300zx, not now but maybe in a few years.

if you get any type of snow....and you need to drive in it, i would not get a RWD car. although they are driveable in small amounts of snow/rain/inclimate weather.

good luck, choose wisely, if you plan on going to college, id prolly get a prelude, because its easier to maintain in the long run.

one of my best friends drives a 96 A4 quattro...that thing is amazing. Sure, its not the fastest car in the world, but its soooooo luxiourious, the AWD is incredible, and the interior is amazing...just my $0.2

peace

I had a similiar issue. I didnt get a 300zx just because it was more expensive for the TT and insurance is high. I didnt want a 300zx NA, cause it seems like a waste.

I got a 92 prelude 4WS which handles really well. Then in a couple years I will eitehr make my Prelude Turbo or sell the lude and get a fast car like the 300zx.

300zx's are nice, but insurance is just so impracticle for when a 16 year old is being insured on the car.

crashing your first car

Jesus, i'm so sick of hearing this statement.

I'm almost 18, since 15 I've owned; 94 325i, 90 Prelude 2.1si, 93 Rx7 TT (for a short time), and now my PPG 4g, and no, I didnt wreck my first, escond, third or fourth car.

If you buy a car assuming you're gonna wreck it, then please, save the nice cars for people who aren't idiots.

Go grab a Ford.

Anyway, go with a 4th gen, I dont know much into mechanics and all you are, but if you go with a TT, there's so much more required maintaince involved - with a 4g Vtec, you'll spank any import thats not on NOS or turbo'd, or one of the all motor beasts.

ALso, being 16, unless you have a killer insurance company (maybe even if you do) you can't get insured with one. Im almost 18 and when I did one of those Online insurance locators (i use USAA, dad's ex miltary), NON of them would insure me with even a turbo DSM (FWD or AWD), and I tried other things, like VR4's etc. No go
Something to check into, just get an insurance quote on whatever you want, takes 2seconds

I was in the same boat as well. They are both great cars regardless. The N/A 300zx motor is like a rock and will go as long as any honda motor. As for RWDs in snow. Any car(FWD, RWD, AWD) will be shi!tty in snow depending on what tires you have on it. Throw a set of snow tires on a RWD and you'll be passing the rich ass SUV mothas that come stock with sh!t tires with ease. Not to mention that RWD with snow tires in snow is probably one of the most fun things ever. And a 300zx NA is a perfect match for a prelude VTEC(stock vs. stock). Straight line, handling(prelude might have advantage since the 300zx is a little porky), fun factor. There a plenty of mods for the 300zx. You just have to look in the right places. You will get many more chicks with a 300zx than a prelude. If you think otherwise, give me some of the smack you're smoking. Insurance will be more for the N/A 300zx but if you're parents will insure it under one of their names for you then you're in luck. If you have the mentality that you're going to crash your first car, then don't buy a sports car. Drive carefully and find open area to learn your car. The first car i owned was RWD and i loved it. I wish i never got a FWD car, but the prelude is one of the best FWD cars ever for performance satisfaction. It's a tough call. You have to find out which will suit you better. People here will only make it harder for you especially since most replies are always biased. Goodluck and let us know how everything turns out.
