I have a 95 accord with a h22a in it. I was just driving normally and when I was trying to accelerate a little, the car didn't want to give any power.. it started to slowly sputter and then die out on me. At first I thought it was my fuel.. since it was pretty low, but the gas light never turned on. So I walked over to the gas station to get some gas. I put 2 gallons in and tried to start her. Instead of starting, I got this nasty grinding/clanking noise as I'm trying to start it. It never started. Every attempt, you'll hear the nasty grinding or some random backfires. I was clueless.. and kept trying to start it. Eventually it turned on and I held the rpms at around 2k, if I let off, the car would just die. While the car is running, I still hear the nasty grinding/crunching. I drove it around for about a mile to further see what was wrong. Every time I tried to accelerate a little, there was barely any power. I just pulled over and it died on me. Whenever I try to start it up now, it's doing the same grinding/crunching sound and doesn't want to start. Problem? Thanks.
Update: I finally had time to pop the valve cover and this is what I found.
Before I see video, I guess broken timeing belt.
--------------
ok, looks like the belt is loose? I've never seen one turn without the VC off before.....
You motor probably jumped a tooth(or more) which means at the very least your timing is off, and at the very most(sort-of) you bent valves and now need a rebuilt head.
If that is abnormal which it looks to be, you need to find why it happened. It could be that your tensioner failed. After you've fixed the issue, you need to time if correctly and then do a leakdown test to make sure you didn't bend any valves.
Something similar happen to my 99 Accord, it was the computer.
Loss power but was able to keep it going and headed to dealer. Shut down many times, restarted and so forth. About 15 miles from dealer, Honda shutdown and pull off the side of the road. Looked underneath, exhaust system was red hot and melting to the ground, yes really melting and caught fire, went running, scared, but it went out. Dealer came and towed the car into the Honda dealership. Called me the next day and said they never seen anything like it, they could not believe it. Said it would cost over 3 grand to fix, computer malfunction, dumped fuel into system, converter stopped up and melting the exhaust system. Computer and entire exhaust system had to be replaced. I called Honda America, they investigated, repaired at there cost. Honda has been running great since, but have started to developed oil leads, you know it is from the excess heat build up, seals and so forth will eventually have to be replaced.
What a story, but true. So beware if you loose power, take it in an have the computer checked.

Don't think a computer problem cause the tensioner to fail. You should probably watch the video.

Well, the tension on the tensioner when pressing on it with your hand is not comparable to an internal combustion engine.
In other words, if you just push and mess with the belt to see if it's loose with your hand, it may feel tight, but when the motor is running, it may not have enough tension to keep the belt taught. However, this is just an idea.
Either way, you need to try the easiest things first: mess with the belt with your hand, if it feels tight, now it's time to take **** apart and see what the hecks going on.
You potentially have some serious money and work ahead of you.

I did not watch the video and Obviously not the same problem, but......
Did you ever stop to think that maybe I was making a contribution to this forum? That maybe when someones searches on "wrong with my motor", that maybe my input might help? My post was to express interest and possibly help someone out in the future.

Wow man, umm first after watching that video - looks scary imo. But I'd take pIERCE's advice, try the easiest (especially on the wallet) approach first and then go from there,.. keep us posted though. Good luck bud!
From what i seen in the video I want to say its the tensioner. If it is the tensioner dont even bother replacing it with the same thing, just swap it out and get the manual tensioner instead. I went through two auto tensioners in less than a month. But my car didnt run at all when my tensioner went so open it up and find out whats wrong. Good luck and keep us informed.
