Wtf wipers ??!?!
My windshield wipers have been screwed up for several months now, and it is really starting to get annoying. I've tried to adjust them at least a dozen times so far, to no avail. How it started:
Long version of the story: Back in the winter (during the same week that I my car got backed into AND rear ended), while driving down a decent sized road at about 40 mph, some douche bag in a minivan switched lanes right in front of me and clobbered a massive pot hole full of ice and water, throwing it over my hood and covering my windshield. I instantly couldn't see a damn thing, so I flipped on my wipers. When I did that, my drivers side wiper went limp while my passenger side wiper beat the hell out of it. I figured my drivers side motor was toast or the shaft was stripped...but it wasn't. I just tightened the bolt on the drivers side wiper arm back down later (it was loose) and all was well, sort of. My passenger side wiper was still bolted down tight so I left it alone, but after this incident it rested a little higher up than it used to and my driver's side wiper slightly hit the window frame on the upswing when the wipers are on "2" on a wet windshield. I leave them like that for a few months (It's too cold to fix them) because they still work, for the most part.
Fast forward a few months, I put on my new carbon fiber hood in March, and the wiper problem immediately gets worse. I did not touch the wipers at all when installing my hood. After the hood is on, the drivers side wiper started beating the hell out of the window frame on the upswing. FML. So then I finally get around to adjusting it. All is well, both wipers line up...I'm happy, until it rains. The first time I actually had to use my wipers in the rain, both wipers were hitting the cowl on the downswing. Whatever, I adjust them up a little higher. They work fine on a dry windshield, but the first time it rains, they starting hitting the window frame on the upswing AND the cowl on the downswing. FTMFL.
I repeat this process several more times. Adjust wipers, the don't hit on either end of their travel when running on a dry windshield, it rains, they beat the crap out of my window frame and cowl...
What's happening now: I'll unbolt and adjust the wiper arms so they are centered, with several inches of extra room on both ends of their travel when the windshield is dry, and tighten the arms back down. I can then run them on full speed on a dry windshield, no problems. As soon as I throw water on the windshield, they resume beating the hell out of the cowl AND the window frame on the drivers side. This is with the car parked, so wind isn't an issue. I've also had the same wiper blades for about a year, so that's not the source of the problem either.
I've spent hours adjusting them, trying different positions with both wiper arms, and it's the same result every time. They work great on dry windshield...hits on up AND down stroke on a wet windshield...
The wipers still come to rest where they are supposed to when turned off, and don't usually have any problems on "1" or "int" speeds.
I'm out of ideas.
It rains a lot here, I need to fix this.
Thoughts?
