won't start!

this is probably a common problem not so much a prelude problem but maybe someone can help me.

my car wouldnt start the other day, so i had to get a boost... i didnt leave anything on, no lights no nothing! i went to work and when i went to leave for work it started fine, as it did for the next couple days. now i go to leave work again and it doesnt start. it makes a big thud sound, maybe comming from my speakers, and it would chug or anything. So i had to get a boost again...i went for a drive on the highway, and as i was reving up about 6 grand the headlights shut off and all my dash lights. i had to turn them off and back on again but the engine never lacked power or cut out or anything. then as i was in town just cruising with highbeams on (hids in hi's and low's) my lights would flicker slowly and my stereo would restart about every 10 seconds or less. so does this mean the battery is done, or the alternator?

How long have you had the battery? You should replace it before anything else. Also, a little more info like you total mileage is appreciated.

Go to any autoparts store and they can check both the battery and the alternator for you with a load tester. Most of them do it for free.

Check your battery terminals for corrosion first, then check the water level in your battery, last - check the ground wire from your battery to the frame or block - if it's loose or frayed that could cause your symptoms. Sometimes it's the simple stuff.

What he said and check to see if one of the battery terminals is touching something like your hood when it's closed. When I had my eclipse I had a similar problem which was caused from the battery being too large to fit under the hood properly and shorting out.
