Wiring for footwell interior leds... >.<

Hi guys,

I was searching around but didnt find much help on this issue.

I want to have led interior lights in the footwells that only go on when the doors open. So I have a couple of led strips.

My question is what is the best way to wire them?
I'm assuming I just find the wires for the dome light and use those. but i have no idea how to get to those wires.

Can anyone post up on how to get to those wires, what plastic panels do i have to remove to get to it?
or if there is a better way to do this, please also let me know.

thanks a lot.

If I had to guess, I would say that you can most likely find those wires running under the floorboard panel along the driver side door. There are quite a few wires down there, so the easiest way to determine which ones you need is to first pop the dome cover off and take the whole assembly down just loose enough to see the color of the wires. Then take that floor panel loose at the door and search for the same color, open the door and test with a multi-tester. Or just go buy a Helms and it will tell you which wires and where they are. After that just tap in, and you're good to go. Again this is just a guess. Hope this helps.

P.S. This is a pretty good idea too, I might steal it, lol!

yeah see i was thinking maybe it will work if i tap into the wires after the relay and fuses and all that. that way im like stealing the dome light's relays also? not sure how well it works, but if it does, im thinking maybe the wires i would tap into are in the pillar?

im not sure though, i kind of dont want to take apart anything until someone kind of agrees with me lol

but yeah, where exactly do those wires go after the dome light?
to the left down the pillar?

i will be doing the same thing pretty soon and have it laid out that i will tap into the door trigger wire. what i'll be doing different is i'll be using a 3 position switch where the middle prong goes to the light, one is constant 12v, the other goes to the door trigger, and the ground goes to a ground. this way i can turn on the footwell lights whenever i want, have them triggered by the door, or have them be off completely.

i just dont remember if the door trigger is positive 12v or if it's negative 12v. if it's the latter then i'll be needing to do an additonal relay to be able to use that wire (or use the dome light wire as originally planned).
