Suup guys today when i was driving down the road i notice on my rear view mirror theres a white smoke comming out my exhaust tip i recently got my Engine rebuilt so did my mechanic do something wrong and mess everything up?
if the oil doesnt look like a milkshake, and the coolant doesnt look like an oil slick, you maybe ok. It could be extra stuff burning off. are you sure it was white? the next time you see it, smell the exhaust. burning coolant smells sweet. burning oil smells very pungent.
Autozone can lend you a blown head gasket tester kit (rent a tool program). All you have to do is buy a bottle of the blue tester solution which costs about $8.
This test looks for hydrocarbons in the coolant (which is one of the ways you can blow a head gasket). If the solution turns yellow then its blown and you will probably have problems with overheating anytime now due to exhaust bubbles in the colling system near the head. However, if the smoke is really white, thick and hangs around, I think you blew the gasket the other way - you are not pushing exhaust gasses into the coolant, you are allowing coolant into the cylinder.
You can also check your spark plugs and see if they are fouled up due to burning coolant.
You can mix coolant into oil, oil into coolant, oil into combustion, coolant into combustion, combustion into coolant... you get the picture. No single test or anything like that will diagnose it. You need to have someone who knows what they are doing check it out.
Meanwhile, check oil and coolant levels before each time you drive it. My guess is that you've got a head gasket issue as a result of the rebuild. Could be a lot of things, though.
