Where to mount new ECU in my '00 Lude

Got my peaked and tuned OBD1 ECU. Far exceeds my expectations for performance improvements and overall drivability. It's literally like a different car! You can really feel the benefit of the remapped timing advance curves and fuel delivery curves. Amazing....

I did a quick search and didn't score any direct hits. Has anyone mounted the OBD1 ECU next to the OBD2 on the bracket under the carpet on the passenger side of the car?

Pictures, if possible would be great. I've been looking the mount plate for the OEM ECU over and it looks like it can be done with some modification to the bracket. (The OBD1 ECU is almost like 1/3 or more larger than the OBD2 ECU. I'd like to have the "quick change option", ie; pull the carpet up, unplug one and plug in the other one.

MD unfortunately is a smog state and we get tested every 2 years. I've already come up with a test pipe and free flowing exhaust system that will accept a 49 state approved high flow Magnaflow to get me through the test.

Once the car is jacked up, I can probably change the 2 in 30 minutes.

Ideas / feedback, and especially pictures on where and or how to mount the 2nd ECU would be appreciated.

Thanks, V1

If you've completely converted to obd1 - why keep the obd2 ecu in there?

It's not like you're running both ecu's at the same time. Unless you have it wired up so you can switch between the two via flip of a switch.

Just remove it, unless for some reason you're tied into it.....

MD is a smog state. Need to be able to plug and play every 2 years. Would rather be able to unplug OBD1 and plug right into OBDII.

Thought maybe there's room on the mounting plate that someone else has found a way to mount the larger OBD1 ECU to with the OBDII in place.

Will your car run properly with an un-tuned standard obd2 ecu?

Or are you just running a tuned obd1 on an internally stock motor?

^^ just curious

As for your concerns vv

If you're willing to go through the trouble of removing the jumper harness and swap back to the obd2 ECU for inspection - you need to remove the ECU tray and carpet to gain access anyway. You're better off just swapping the ECU's entirely rather going through the headache of mounting the OBD1 where it will just get in the way.

My idea is to permanently mount the OBDI ECU to the tray next to the OEM OBDII ECU, and when the time comes unplug the OBDI and plug in the OBDII. Just trying to keep it simple. All I have to do is pull the carpet back and swap the harness.

I'm working on putting together a low restriction, (2.25"), exhaust system that will support the more aggressive OBDI tuning but still pass smog with the OBDII module running the car. The exhaust I'm putting together has all the factory located O2 bungs. My plan is to run the low restriction Maegan CAT for the first smog test. If it fails, I have a brand new Magnaflow #44644 which is a direct fit bolt on.

Bear in mind this is a daily driver. I'm all ready impressed with the performance improvement and improved drivability I can feel with the OBDI ECU.

I've got to find a muffler that isn't going to give me the "fart can" sound that the new exhaust system resonator and CAT will have trouble keeping in check.

Suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

2.25" isn't big enough.

You can't just switch between OBDI and OBDII at the flip of a switch either. An OBDII ECU requires additional/different sensors than an OBDI ECU does.

if you want to mount both ECU's to the tray, you'll gonna need to make new holes and just simply use some nuts and bolts
