when switching to synthetic...

hey luders,

i am currently running on conventional 5w-30 motor oil. my next oil change, i will be switching to Mobil 1 synthetic. Would i have to use products like "sea-foam" to clean out the head and system before using synthetic? or during my next change just pore in synthetic? thanks

I say pour it right in! If your concern is to avoid mixing the synthetic with the OLD oil remaining in the crankcase I would recommend flushing your engine with 5 quarts of fresh conventional motor oil before changing the filter. Drive a couple of miles with fresh oil to circulate and flush the whole engine and then drain. Don't use any other engine flush or your new synthetic will be mixing with the flush. Mobil 1 is compatible with all conventional oil don't worry.
