Wheel Bearing Orientation

I think my shop installed my front wheel bearing backwards. It's an OEM bearing, and I thought the side with the black seal was supposed to be on the outside against the hub. Two questions - which is technically correct and does it matter?

Black should be facing out on an OEM bearing but it's hard to say if it will hurt anything since it's not like the newer cars where one side is magnetic and that's how it reads for vehicle speed and ABS. This car though has the old classic ring on the axle. It might not hurt anything especially if it's not making any noise but you could take it back and demand they redo it and pay for a new bearing.

Thanks minilogoguy. The shop that did the work swears it doesn't matter but Helms clearly shows black facing out like you said. A second shop I checked with also said it probably wouldn't matter, and the local Honda dealer confirmed it was backwards but was non-committal on whether it would matter. I was probably too nice about it but I do like the shop overall and don't want to ruin my relationship with them over this. I guess I'm gonna go with it as-is for now and hope for the best.

I thought they were directional. but I could be wrong as I haven't had to replace mine. But im sure I've read that in a few different threads.
