What is my prelude worth?

Hey Guys,

I have a '97 5-speed I'm thinking about selling - just have no idea what its worth, probably not much. Its got 220,000 miles and needs a clutch(is not drivable). I replaced the engine with a JDM H22 from hmotors back at 170K. It also has no A/C, but I have a new compressor and some hoses for it. Tires are pretty new. The body is in ok condition for the mileage, besides the rock chips expected with that many miles.

What would you expect it could be sold for?

Ask and you shall receive

Its been sitting for almost 2 years, could defiantly use a good wash. Spoiler needs to be re-painted. The car is located in Vegas.

Get a cover on it if you're just gonna let it sit. All that bird crap is destroying the paint.

It's a nice car.

Have any history/records? That can help the price a little.

Thanks. I'm sure I have some of the records but defiantly not all, which may be as good as having none. Hopefully I can find the important one for the engine swap.

Did a quick once over with meguires quick wax, it cleans up decent but would definably benefit from a good clay bar / orbital buffer.

So is 3-4k reasonable? Even without A/C and needing a clutch?

Thanks again guys!

I'm going to be completely honest about the clutch(which I forgot about in my first post): That kills you.

Would you pay for an apple that you couldn't eat? Well, you shouldn't. Apples are meant to be eaten, when they can't be--they are theoretically worthless.

A car is meant to do one thing: Drive. When it can't--it is theoretically worthless.

You need to get that fixed, that would drastically bring up it's value. I don't with such high body mileage(engine or not) that you could get more than $2.5-3k AT MOST with it undriveable. With it fixed, you should be able to get an honest $4k.

Body is really straight, theres like no bumper sag.. if it runs good (minus the clutch) and no a/c id say get the clutch fixed and you should have no problem selling it for at least 4k

Good attention to detail! Car was rear-ended and trunk was repainted.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Sounds like I need to decide whether or not I will replace the clutch before I sell it.

^You probably won't make your money back on the sale if you fix the clutch. It's going to cost ~$600 to get a shop to do it for you. The new clutch likely will not increase the value of the car by that much. If it was mine I would try to sell it as-is and only worry about fixing the clutch if you can't find a buyer.

The no a/c is gonna hurt the price considering you live in Las Vegas.
