you can get them custom made at muffler shops for about $200. companies such as random technology and focuz make "high flow cat converters," which are basically legal straigth pipes (test pipes). you cant get in trouble for it unless you get caught with it right
the HP gain is good for the $. my car pulled so much harder with the straight pipe (test pipe) combined with intake and exhaust. the only reason i took it off is because i get a check engine light and its a really big fine here in CA for having one. using it for track, however, will prove to have good results. i improved by more than 2 car lengths while racing a friend who i usually lost to...and with the pipe on i won the race.
cons:
the smell is really bad! it smells like gas is coming from your exhaust pipe. cars behind you would have to roll up their windows to resist the odor. also, there will be white smoke coming from your exhaust. this is how cops in CA assume that you have this illegal mod. next, if this is to any of your concerns, the check engine light does come on, but not becuase there is a problem. also, in low RPMs below 3000 it sounds kinda like a rock in a tin can, but after 3000 rpm its gone. i think its juss the sound of the air being freed

oh and one more thing, it may be illegal in some states!
pros:
it frees up the exhaust system to gain the extra HP that the stock cat restricts. the exhaust tone is enhanced, and since i have a GReddy PE, which is somewhat quiet to me, the test pipe made the exhaust a bit louder and more enjoyable. overall, if there was not any check engine light, i would keep my test pipe. i was only concerned about the check engine light b/c my car is still new. stupid obd2. but hey! the obd2 workaround wil cure the check engine light problem
if any questions juss post
