Well...i was lined up wit this kid in my town..he has a 01 civic ex...i dropped the clutch at 3.5k got some tire spin and the the rpm just shot up hittin the rev limiter...so i put it in second..same thing happend..clutch was slipping..so i shut it down...Lined up again...dropped it at 3k this time and got lots of tire spin then went into 2nd...guess what?? rpm just shot all the way up to cutoff...I have no clue why this could be happening...the car only has 37k on it..and that is the first time ive actually beat on the car...Anyone else experience this with there 5th gen.??Ahhh it makes me soooo mad...because the guy is braggin about how he stomped me...o well...i think i got my wheels sold...so here comes the hatch+b18...sorry guys i had to vent...but let me know if i should spend my next pay check on a clutch..
Well only four reasons that your rpms go all the way up to redline really quickly:
1) The clutch is pressed down or it's not catching anymore.
2) The tires have no traction
3) You downshift into the wrong gear
4) You have a turbo/SC setup on your car and if so
Chances are it's one or two but only you can tell that.

I think its 1...I can take off normal run the car to redline-shift to 2nd and the clutch grabs fine...but if i drop it above..lets say 2.5...i get wheel spin till around 4 then the clutch doesnt grab anymore...causing the rpm to go up VERY fast!..During one of those runs i also tried goin into 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear and it still slipped...Also i hit the limiter quite a few times...do you think i harmed anything...i was gettin so frustrated and i had to go through the gears so fast that i hit the limiter in every gear...owell.
The exact same thing happened to me. I was racing a mustang (which i new i could beat)and i launched at 4K, the wheels spun and it went to 7600rpm, i shifted into 2nd and it instantly shot up to 8000rpm with the cluch out and the gas floored. Is there a better technique?

If I were you I would forget the B18 swap and do a B20 swap instead. Trust me on this. We have two of them running around, 1 in a CRX and 1 in a 91 hatch, and no one wants to race either of them cause they are both fast as hell. Torque monsters. It would run you about the same money especially if you are talking about a B18C(5).

I know my tires werent spinning...because the flagger said and so did my friend that was watching...i mean i got tire spin then the clutch just let go...i went out to the same spot yesterday...tried lauching..and everything was fine...from what i know the car has never been beat on like that so maybe it was breaking in or something..
About the hatch...i was also thinking b20z vtec...but getting one built properly is gonna cost mad cash...and around here..noone knows what the F*ck there doin!!...If anyone around the nashville area in TN..knows anybody thats good with doin swaps and stuff...let me know...
If you wanted to bring it to PA we would be more than happy to do it for you. We have done a few of them and they all run quite well. Defiantely worth the money. They run a lot faster than what the dyno sheets show too. Since most people look at HP ratings on the dyno and forget all about torque. Torque is the answer in any Honda.
