Yeah, but have you ever driven the thing? Damn thing is so BIG, yet so small inside. I thought I was driving a lowered tank! I think my dad's old Eldorado felt like a smaller car then the 3000GT. The numbers might be impressive, but it drives like a Caddy too. It is SOOOOO unrewarding to drive. No feedback whatsoever.
I agree bout teh RX-7. BEAUTIFUL CARS, looks and drving feel, but unless you got wads of cash for a full engine rebuild every 70k miles or so (damn those pesky rotary seals), I'd advise against it.
BTW, you should check with your insurance comp about getting the MR2. You're rates are gonna be very high (18-19 year old driving 2 seat, turboed midengine sports car) and you may not be able to afford it!
how much faster do you want to make your car??? i have an FMax turbo for my SH but not installed yet. i was told that the ATTS wont really conflict with the turbo because i'll be using stock boost anyway.....say about 230-250hp range. i mean if you're going for 300+ hp than there's a problem there with the atts. well if you do sell your ride i got first dibs on the spoon strut bar.
MR2 would be a pretty sweet replacement.
Thanx for all of your replies. Anyways, I'm still debating on the situation. I still need to sell the Lude first. As of now, I'm kinda thinking oh buying a 99+ used base lude and just turboing that. For some reason I love the look of the lude and seems like it sticks out more than other cars out there, plus it's more practical with the extra 2 seat even though it's tight in the back. Well we'll see what happens. Oh yeah, and Tony, if I sell the lude for a MR2 or another car, then I'll sell you the Spoons strut bar for cheap, but if I get a base lude, I'm gonna keep it still.

My father owns a VR-4. I agree with you about the interior, feels more cramped than my lude. I don't know about the driving like a Caddy comment though...the AWD and 4WS turns the car into a monster around the corners. But then again, I just love the feeling of driving an AWD car, and the way I figure it, this is the closest I can get to driving anything similar to a Skyline (huge power, weight, AWD) without forking over some major $$$

Forget about that bald guy. I'm the original Mr. Clean...
If you don't mind the age and the impracticality, I think the MR2 Turbo is a real cool car that can be extremely fast in every way. I've even seen an NA one routinely run away from some really serious cars at autocrosses. It won't be as reliable as the Prelude, but you can get one for not too much money. I'd love one for a 2nd car, or a 1st one if I didn't need it to commute every day. The later ones were tuned for a little less oversteer, but careful suspension mods on an earlier one might make up for their twitchiness.
RX7 TTs are unfortunately pretty unreliable. Otherwise they are about the coolest car out there under $20,000. A 300ZX TT is probably safer. 3000GT is too damn big and from experience I don't trust DSM turbos too much.
My other suggestion is something I've honestly seriously thought about- a 78-82 Porsche 911 SC or an early 80's 911 Carrera. You can easily have one for well under $20,000, maybe under $15,000 if you search and don't mind something that doesn't look perfect. And hey, they say it's a 4 seater! Two update mods for the SC engine and it will almost never break (many already have these updates). The Carrera engine needs no mods whatsoever to never break. The transmission is pretty strong, if a little difficult. The SC clutch has to be replaced (rubber springing), but most have been by now. There are so many suspension and tire/wheel options it is dizzying. The Carrera is no doubt faster than a Prelude. The SC has a bit less horsepower than the Prelude, but has more torque and it weighs about 350 lbs. less, so it is marginally faster. I drove an SC once and have ridden in a couple other 911s at autocrosses and they have a kind of raw feel that really makes you feel like you are "piloting" rather than driving. But people say they demand some respect and care at the limit, you never, ever let off the throttle in a turn in a 911. They drive more like a miniature surfboard than a skateboard, if that makes any sense.

supra tt - insurance- Good luck finding one in your price range
300z ugly piece of ****
3000gt-vr4 - ....ummm 3000gt are they suppose to modified to any faster?
RX-7: problematic. you need to be really anal on maintenance and upkeep or something will go wrong. this is actually a myth, but has ended up to be true for many people who dont know how to maintain rotarys. but otherwise these are incredible cars.
Supra: insurance is expensive if you're younger - under your parents, as a weekend car or so, it's a difference story. cost of maintenance is higher than your prelude; when things go wrong, expect to say goodbye to your friends named benjamin.
300ZX: you're blind if you think the 300ZX is ugly, but oh well - everyone has their own opinion. i think this car is the second best looking (after the rx7) out of the four cars you listed, but i dont know about them at all. they are fast.
3000GT: parts are expensive, but they are fast out the box. the AWD is really nice and comes in handy when you need it. supposedly the transmission, although made by Getrag, isn't very good probably because all the strain of AWD. resale value is terrible, but that works in your favor since you're the buyer.
Insurance on any of these cars is gonna be expensive, and all of these cars are gonna cost you more to maintain than your Prelude. Go with something new since you have something relatively new now. You could get a WRX, which is an awesome car IMO. There are also a lot of new cars coming out soon, such as the new Z, Lancer EVO, and Supra.. oops, did I say Supra? Well, it's coming out in two years.
If you want raw power, then get a V8 and hook that sucker up for half the price of hooking up an import. You'll be in the 12's w/ about $1000 of mods. If you want looks with the ride, no better choice than the Supra.

be careful with an rx-7 mann if u decide to get. that rotary engine is a handful. you can't just throw on parts like u can with a lude. the internals in that engine must be changed and the air/fuel mixture has to be close to perfect. its a terrific car but it hard to keep in good working condition. good luck, it it were me i'd go with an MR2!!!
