What actually happens when you grind gears (lots more)

Ok, well I went to the track yesturday for the Survival Series #1 in Englishtown, NJ at RaceWay Park. Any way - my first run was a 15.7, second was a 15.1 and last was a 15.5 I have I/H/E/P and a fully tuned suspension with a Stage 3 clutch. I know in general my times should be lower but everybody was running crappy times. Anyway - during the first and 3rd run I grinded gears - both from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I don't understand why this is happening. Lately my 1st to 2nd has been grinding a LOT and I can't figure out if I'm the one at fault for shifting fast or innaccurately, or if its the car. I mean when you're at the track, your level of concentration is extreme, so I can't figure out if I'm the one that's doing this or something's wrong. Before when I had Intake/Exhaust I went to the track and had absolutely no problems hooking and shifting, but lately with the stage 3 and the header and pulleys my car is grinding gears all the time. So my question is - first of all - what actually happens when you grind gears? What parts of the transmission or clutch does this happen to and what bad can come of it? And also - are there any ways to prevent this?

I dont have an exact answer for what happens when you grind gears but I had the same problem when I replaced my stock clutch. The reason(on my car) for the grinding was that the new clutch engaged/disengaged much closer to the floorboard and I wasnt used to fully depressing the clutch between shifts. Try fully depressing the clutch between shifts and you may also want to flush your tranny fluid.

My clutch actually grabs really high so I know that's not the problem. So now how do I go about draining my tranny fluid and what fluid should I use in my car?

A lot of people recommending staying with the Honda MTF, However I am about to try Redline MTL in a couple of weeks and I have heard this is really good for stopping grindage (which can especially happen when its cold) and allowing smoother shifting.

Now how do I actually drain the fluid properly and what other steps do I need to be aware of to change the fluid?

You're a freakin D|CK bro. Lol - the weather was horrible for racing so pretty much everybody was getting slow times. That's what I hate about the 1/4 some times. One day you'll be running great times that you never thought you would and then another, when you think you got your ride all tricked out and tuned, you're bringing back **** numbers. LOL - I wanted to shoot that girl that handed me my 15.7 timeslip. I HATE HER. hehe

I would just take your car to a mechanic and have them flush the tranny. It will cost around 50. There is a LSD install on hp.com that I believe also shows how to flush the tranny.
