We're going to need to know what you've done to the car. Including, what tuning have you done to make VTEC engage at 6k RPMs?

A dirty vtec screen can make vtec engage late or even not at all. If the car is relatively stock that is something cheap and quick you could try. Also make sure your oil levelo is good and oil is clean.
