Very weird throttle responce/ rpm problem

My car seems to have lost the ability to rev between 1.5K and 4K rpm. I've got a 98 Base model manual with a CAI on it nothing special. Its winter here and canada and I'd say the temp is -20C ish not too cold. My car was driving fine last night i parked it for the night. This morning when i got up to go for class i command started it got ready went out and jumped in.
First thing i noticed was the idle rpm were at 1100 instead of the normal 800 ish, and the CEL was on. CEL isn't that big of an issue and i need to get to school so i put it in first and start to drive away, and immediatly notice something wrong. at first it seemed like my car was either full throttle or no throttle, and in first gear that made it very very jerky, whiplash like. after that i pushed in the clutch and tried revving it to see what it would do. as i pushed on the gas pedal it revved to 1500 and held there fluctuating between 1400 and 1500 rpm, then as i got to where the pedal should be to being the car to 4K it just shot to 4K. it was impossible to rev to and hold the rpm anywhere between 1.5 and 4K. when i get home i'll run the CEL and see what happens. until then throw out suggestions, i'm thinking fuel system maybe?

Sticky throttle cable? Maybe from the cold?

Wet distributer cap? Fouled plugs or screwed up ignition wires? I would check the CEL.

Where abouts in Alberta are you? I have yet to see -20 C.

nuff said. You could also have an issue with the VSS Sensor a vaccum leak. The CEL will tell you for sure.
