verify my research plz. h22a////h22a type s

okay so I blew my motor and I plan on buying a new one. I always thought that the h22a was the 217hp motor, but I am mistaken from my research the type s is, right? And the type s will work with a fifth gen sh? The type s is closed deck and the jdm h22a is open with a 10:6:1 compression ratio. So what is the difference from a h22a and a h22a4? Also how can you tell if a motor is a type s? Someone said take the head off. I am assuming they have diff pistons but I don't know what either or look like. So the type s is the one with 11:1 compression and beefier cams. Also will a h22a work in a sh. The vin # should help me right?(know if it is a type S) Does anyone know what digit and what letter or number i am to check for. Also which motor is compatible with a jdm limited slip transmission that will fit in a fifth gen sh. Thank you for your time and godspeed. I am on spring break and this is the only time I will have to fix my car.

You're going to pay the the price twice for the type-S H22 vs the h22a4 or any else h22.
Probably around 4000$.

The H22a JDM 92-96 is closedeck with high compression, you should go for it and let the canadian H22a4 on the side.

JDM motor got low milleage, you will have the H22a + LSD tranny around 2500$

yeah I was looing for the conformation of all the questions. I don't mean to sound like a dick. I got quoted for a h22a for 900 plus tax jap low mileage. I really wanna know if a type s is a closed deck. because i plan to throw a supercharger and a few other things and call it a day. easier to get type s and just leave the bottom end and head alone. supercharged with a skunk 2 composite intake manifold with what i already got. can someone please verify my ????S. pretty plz.

all 5th gen motors are open deck, the type s has pistons cams etc... for your set up go with 4th gen 92-95 obdI that is closed deck.... type s is also high compression 11+/1 not good for supercharger...

H22A1 - USDM OBD1 Closed Deck 10:1 CR
H22A4 - USDM OBD2 Open Deck 10:1 CR (Two Versions, Base & Type-SH)

H22A - JDM OBD1 Closed Deck 10.6:1 CR
H22A - JDM OBD2 Open Deck 10.6:1 CR
H22A (Type S) - JDM OBD2 Open Deck 11:1 CR

Question you need to answer first, are you wanting to keep the ATTS System? If so, do you know the limitations of it?

If you do not, then you want to get a Type-S without the ATTS System.

Any H22 will work in the 5thGen Type-SH, if you're not keeping the ATTS.

/\This/\ is one of the most repeated fallacies.

If you don't have ATTS, or don't want to have ATTS - then the Type-S swap is a waste of money.

If you want to swap a non-ATTS motor into an SH, you'll have to use the transmission, ECU, and intermediate shafts from the axles of a non-SH prelude.

There were different transmission options for the Type-S, LSD and ATTS.

Actually, the Type-S only came with ATTS. The SiR s-spec was the trim level with 11:1 and LSD.

Yep. Basically Japan's base vs SH.

You dont I REPEAT (not yelling) you dont have to change the axles!!!! SH axles will work just finished my swap in my 97 sh(h22a now) sorry been busy thats why i didnt get back to you sooner h22aluder there is so much you have to change or before you do the swap it's unbelievable and say bye bye to the atts you can continue to use ur sh ecu just change over the distributor like you read on my thread run the four wires from your ckp sensor to the distributor dont worry about the extra connection you will have form the atts unit should you decide to change the distributor you don't have to change over the oil pump and if you look on my thread I am going to post on there the threads i went to to get all the info I needed one thing you got to learn about these fourms is that no one persons knows every single little detail about the prelude especially the sh model it's a collective group with past experience and will take alot of research took me two months of non-stop research to get to where i am now. Good luck your in for a big headache but when its all over your going to have one mean ride man.

The JDM Type S and SIR-Spec have the same engine as one another and its also exactly the same as the H22a8 bar the ECU. The transmissions are the same but are mounted differently i think. Also the Type S has to have its transmission as any other transmission wont work IIRC. (dont hold me to that).
