Vehicle Speed Sensor / Transmission Question. (ryuryu?)

Ok,

I've got a 1998 Honda Prelude with a SS Auto transmission.

(I ***** about it enough, so I'm sure most of you know this.)

Anyway,

About 3 months ago the tranny started to hard shift from 3rd to 4th gear.

The odd thing is that it only hard shifts when I'm at WOT or 3/4 throttle doing about 5300+ RPM's in 3rd gear.

I've noticed on my tachometer that the RPM's have a tendancy to jump (or slip) upward when I'm hauling ass.

The transmission does not appear to be slipping though...

It got me to thinking:

The transmission is an electronically controlled beastie.

If the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) was defective [had an intermittant problem at higher RPM's], might it cause a problem with the shifting of the transmission?

As I said, if I shift at 5500RPM from 3rd to 4th, but take my foot off the gas just before, the transmission shifts fine.

Any thoughts on this would be REALLY appricated.

Gerhard

You know I might need one. I just got a CEL # P1791 ,but I've got some more working around to do to see if there is just a short somewhere, so...........

Gerhard -

IMO I would say try section 23-66 of the Helms....
I'm going through it right now, but I might just buy the VSS instead of buying a damn test harness.

I've got a spare VSS... if you want to try the swapping... No idea how much they normally cost... don't need any cash, just send it back if it swapping doesn't solve your problem.
