Valve Tick Issue

2000 honda prelude dohc vtec non turbo, stock basicly . bought the car in orlando,fl for 3500 dude wanted 5 grand i talked him down , driving the car back to port saint lucie fl ,and noticed it needed work so i put new struts,cv's , cd player, ball joints tie rod ends, radius bar bushings, valve cover gasket , and a few other things, well about 200 miles ago ive been hearing a tick coming from valve cover so my friend told me i need to adjust the valves so i attempted that and that didnt do **** but make it worse, so another friend told me i need to put a timing belt and tensenor in it and then adjust the valves but i dont know what to do any ideas anyone?

How many miles are on the car? 70k and 140k are average miles to have the major maintenance done. (timing belt, tensioner and water pump)

Sounds like you may need the timing belt and tensioner done just as your friend said followed by another valve adjustment just to make sure they're holding the adjustment properly and not slipping, thus needing to replace more..

It's normal to hear a slight tick but it sounds to me that yours is just progressively getting worse. Hopefully you don't have a bent valve - but that'll be the next thing to look into if the timing belt and tensioner don't fix the issue.
