Valve Adjusting

I have a 98 Sh and am wondering how to go about adjusting my Valves. I have been told by people that you should have them adjusted every 15,000 miles or so and I haven't ever done it with 50k on my car. I'm pretty mechanical so I don't have to worry about screwing anything up and I know where they are, I just need to know how to go about adjusting them and whether it is worth my time

The top of the valve has a flat head slot in it. It is held in place by a 10mm nut. With a .007 and a .009 feeler gauge you can set the valve. .007 intake and .009 exhaust.

Turn your motor to TDC (Arrows line up on cam gears) and slide the .007 feeler between the intake cam lobe and lifter. If loose, loosen the 10mm bolt on that valve, move the valve with a flat head screw driver by turning the valve stem. Keep checking for "drag" on the feeler gauge while youre adjusting. Once you've got it right, retighten the 10mm nut. After that, goto the exhaust side of the same cylinder (remember to use the .009 gauge)

After you've got one done, turn the motor with a 17mm (I think) rachet on the crank pully until the next set of notches line up on the cam gears. You're now ready to do the next cylinder.

Firing order for the motor is 1-3-4-2 With one being on the drivers side and 4 closest to the distributor.

Side note - SnapON makes a valve adjustment tool which is a deep well 10mm socket with handles on it and a flat head screw driver through the middle that makes this job a snap. If you don't have one, You can use a flat head screw driver and a 10mm box wrench, but MAKE SURE you get the 10mm nut nice and tight. Also, after everything is done, recheck the valve adjustment.

Hope this helps
