Typical Auto SS failed, doing swap ..

Yet another successful story of a 97 auto ss failing. Had 82k miles
Mechanic has my car that i dearly miss
I'm doing the swap to manual but having difficulties finding parts
Suggestions ????
Should i go to the stealership for the maintenance <-- for convenience of parts
I need my car back so would it be ideal to just reman auto ss
Please input back
Thanks fellow luders

I did forget that money is an issue due to me being a broke college student, however i do have roughly 3000 to spend on it rather than 7000 to spend on a new prelude. thanks for the offer, i have been told to buy a new one and sell it .... i would sell it and put the 3000 towards the new car but there are aftermarket components on the vehicle on it that i would like to have in my possession, plus, its my car ....

Remove the aftermarket parts.
Sell the car for ~$3000.
Apply $3000 + $3000 + aftermarket parts to non-sissy tranny Prelude.

To sell it you would have to repair the transmission though? Which I've heard costs quite a bit. The swap doesn't take long if you get your **** together in the beginning, and I'd say with the low miles and such your lude is probably in pretty good shape. If you're in a hurry and cannot find a decent shop to do the swap you really just have to follow Kronn's advice though.

Ummm... How much do you guys think a Prelude with a broken SS tranny is worth? Hard to sell a car for top dollar when it's not working. Also, time would work against you as the pool of possible buyers is vastly smaller. You may as well just keep it as a parts car, but like the guy said he doesn't have the cash to buy a second prelude outright. he doesn't have a lot of options.

What we should first address is: is $3000 enough for a tranny swap?

^If you do it yourself, definitely, if you go through a shop it all depends. I've heard of people getting theirs swapped by reputable shops for 2k to 2500. I did mine myself, without a donor car and mostly new parts and it ended up at about 1400. For parts you can go anywhere, the main idea is look for a donor five speed that is wrecked. I ordered most of mine from Majestic Honda - The Internet's #1 Honda Automotive Parts Store but their shipping kills, so try to make it all one event.

join alot of forums. pz.com, pp.com and any where else there might be preludes. you can usually find all, if not most of the parts ppl are selling off. i just sold off everything i used on my 5spd swap. if you think you can and have the time i'd swap it. diy'ing imo is funner than just selling off. i didn't know how to drive a manual and never even changed a set of spark plugs and i swapped mine and did some little things w/o a hitch

Do the swap. I bought mine new so I'm the only owner and couldn't bare to part with her. It cost me about 1500 for all parts, and a great dad that can help me with it plus friends so no labor charges. I plan on doing it this summer.
