Type Sh Brake issues

I have a 1998 Type Sh that is giving me some brake problems. When I back up (with or without applying the brake) the passenger side rear wheel makes a loud, grinding sound. Any ideas of what this may be? Also, I want to replace one of the front brake lines, will I encounter any issues with ABS if I just remove the line and replace it with a new one? Thanks everyone!

How much material is left on the pads? Make sure rocks/anything aren't stuck between the dustshield and rotor.

That noise is probably the squeal tabs rubbing the rotor. Time to replace the pads. Also make sure that caliper is sliding on the pins like it should while changing out the pads.

You can just swap in that new brake line. Just remember to bleed the system.

I encountered this twice before and they are right, it is the brake pad that needs replacing. The first time I bought the car and didn't know the status of the brakes, drove it around for a month and then let my sister drive it. Well she takes off down the road with the E-Brake still on for almost a mile until I finally recognize it and get pissed. After that incident, I noticed the grinding while in reverse. I could even let it coast backwards down a hill and still hear it (without even pressing on the brake). After I got the pads replaced, I went another year until I let her drive the car again. But lo and behold, the same event happened and she drove with the E-Brake on and I got the same grinding noise. Boom, another chunck of change down the drain for more rear brake pads.

As a rule, she can no longer drive my car

when changing the rear brake pads remember the caliper doesn't compress like the fronts do under pressure, the are a "screw" in design, you have screw them in same as you would do with an actual screw. Took me awhile to figure that out... haha

Thanks!

Cool, I'll take all of your advice and hopefully that'll fix the back brake. And I can definitely just change out the brake line in the front too, without messing up the ABS right? Thanks everyone!
