Get a Base if you gonna drag.
Get an SH if you gonna autocross.

They both have an H22A4 in it stock.
Don't buy automatic.

It's dumb when all you had to type was Honda Prelude in Google or Wikipedia.

Don't get an SH if you plan on getting more than 250hp out of it. If you want to know why, search these forums.

Forums are for discussion and learning, no matter what education level. At least the guy is polite and doesn't have the grammar of a 2nd grader like most people on forums.

OP--The base is a little more hassle free, less parts to work on and to fix when broken. If you ever plan on tuning the vehicle, you'll definitely want a Base. The SH has ATTS, just search for that and you'll find plenty of info.
Every single USDM 1997-2001 prelude has (originally) an H22a4 in it.

I don't have a problem with his education level. I think he should read more before he asks questions that you could find in less than 10 seconds. I was just being blunt.

Nah, sorry to come off as an ass. Just frustrating sometimes. I'm sure you'll find all you need here and on the other Prelude forums. Good luck dude.

edit: Don't boost your car unless you plan on spending 10-15k on a quality build.

I would personally just get a base 5 speed (keep in mind the automatics are very bad on the prelude). I love my type sh and its handling characteristics but preludes have gotten so old that I feel like the atts units are going to be more prone to failure. if you want better handling out of a base there are lots of tweaks you can do such as a limited slip differential among other things like coilovers and swaybars.

with cars approaching this age, IMO it's best to keep things as simple as possible.

welcome to the forum. Preludes are great cars if you decide to buy one.they are way less common than civics or accords and way better looking.for example my 5th gen is one of only two in Plainfield, IN and the other is a bone stock SH owned by a middle aged lady so really...mine is the only one in Plainfield lol.feels good to be unique plus I get looks/compliments all the time.

....and dont mind Donny.he just hasnt gotten laid in a while

I'd definitely get a base if you plan on doing any modification, the ability to convert to OBD1 and do real tuning will greatly outweigh having an electronically controlled clutch type LSD.

I have a question? If you getting the Lude to drag with.....why are you getting a lude in the first place. I love Preludes, I do. Super fun car to drive. There just aren't a drag car. For the money it is going to take to get the lude competitive, you could just buy something faster to begin with.

In the US anyways. There was another engine choice in other parts of the world. Ever see the 4 lug 5th gen? Single cam F in it I believe.

Also, if you ever have engine problems with an SH, you have to find an SH block. They are different than the Base one which greatly narrows your search. The Base model auto and 5spd are the same. SH is different. So more than likely if you have to do an engine, your probably gonna do a tranny as well unless your lucky enough to find a good SH engine.
