Type S Tranmission Woes - Whining gears

Hey Guys,

I just got my type S swap back, and within 40 miles of leaving the shop, the transmission started to make bad noises. The noise sounds like the typical honda tranmission sound when going backwards, a whining toy car sound.

At first I heard it faintly in 5th gear, then whithin a mile, third gear, then fourth and second started to whine. As of right now, only first gear sounds normal, all other gears whine lound enough to be mistaken for a ghetto supercharger.

All gears shift smoothly, they engage without grinding. The sound only happens when in gear with the clutch engaged. If i am in third and moving, then step on the clutch to coast, the noise disapears. There is no noise in neutral with or without the clutch pushed in.

I'm hoping its not the main shaft bearing, as the noise was only coming from specific gears, and there is no noise at neutral (the tranny still spins in neutral right?). When doing the swap, I had the shop transfer my excedy organic clutch into the type S tranny, but i'm thinking its unrelated to the noise. The clutch and pressure plate had 10k miles on it when swapped into the type S.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

that was my first thought, but i called to confirm, they are absolutely sure they put fluid in (they remembered specifically).

Furthermore, he mentioned that if the tranny was dry, it would've seized already, and neutral would be very loud.

hmm..its weird that it would start so soon after being in the shop. maybe they put in the wrong fluid? Im not saying they are a bad shop, im just trying to figure it out. Besides, everyone makes mistakes...

Hey, figured it out, got under the car last night. The transmission drain bolt was hand tightened, and was loose enough for me to move it with my finger tips. The shop is taking responsibility for this, and they are doing all of the labor and covering the parts, big thumbs up for taking responsibility.

The tranny is filled now, it shifts fine, but when in second gear, theres a faint "reverse" noise.

Glad i only drove on it for 2 blocks and checked the tranny before driving it back to them... it would've never made it...

wow...right on then. At least are taking responsibility for it. Thats a sign of a good, honest shop. Are they gonna overhaul your tranny? new bearings or what?
