Type S passed emissions

Hi All,

I am new to this forum but not new to the prelude family. I am looking to get back to the prelude family and looking to purchase a clean prelude with a Type S jdm swap. My main concern is passing the emissions with the ODBI with the jdm ecu. I was wondering with the same swap had any success passing emissions? Thank you in advance.

There is no way to legally pass emissions with OBDI.

I am in discussion with member Kadidle, it appears that he had figured out how to resolved the emissions issues.

Plenty of ways to resolve it, you just can't do it legally, or need to get it inspected by a state referee or something like that.

how they gonna know what kind of ecu you have there if its tuned to pass the emission standards? do they rip your interior apart and take every ecu out?

They plug into the OBDII diagnostic port. Only a USDM OBDII ECU will communicate.

k guys, I brought my prelude to my mechanic today and they did their amazing work to get the car pass emissions with flying colors. They did not have to do all the conversions that is required to pass emissions. After their amazing work, they brought my car to an independent state emissions facility to get the car tested. I am still running with everything that came with the jdm type s motor. If anyone in CT and having this issue, contact me and I will put you in the right place.

If you're using the ECU for the Type S engine then it will be OBD2 >_>

Why are people so retarded as to think that there is no OBD2 in Japan?

That doesn't change the fact that a JDM ECU cannot be read by American scanners. However, there are several kinds of emissions checks. You have visual tests (yep, he has a cat, he's ok), sniff tests (suck on the tail pipe), plug in tests (jack into plug). You can pass the first two, but you will always fail the third.

Most states will pass you if you have the choice to go to an independent station....sometimes not "legally" or Just because they don't care long as you pass the sniff test etc. The states like Cali that are strict are the ones that are near impossible.

states that plug into the ecu to do emissions can't read the type s ecu, obd2 or not. so that would fail if he were in a state that does the plug in test.

whenever i tried to get my car inspected they couldn't communicate with my car, so it was a fail.
