(im stationed in the uk right now). anyways would the type r ecu work with the type s enigne or make any difference in the type s engine? also would using the type r ecu help pass emissions in the states? sorry if these are retarded questions just couldnt find answers searching the forum. thanks in advance.

If you have a Type S then you need the Type S ECU to control the ATTS in the car. The Euro ATR ECU isnt going to help pass emissions because IIRC they're not OBD-II compliant. Best you can do is get a USDM SH ecu, pass inspection, then replace it with the Type S ECU.

If that is a true Type S with the ATTS and everything you cannot put any other ECU in without changing a few things. From what I've heard the JDM OBD is different than both ours and Europe so you would actually have to change a few things before you could even run a USDM ECU.

If you're talking about a JDM Type S, that's true you cannot just swap in a USDM ECU. If you swap a JDM Type S motor into a US car you would need the JDM ECU as well, Japan doesnt have any version of OBD. If you want a JDM Type S transplant to be legal here in the US you would need to swap all the sensors, distributor, etc... from the previous SH motor onto the Type S motor and then use the USDM Type SH ECU.
