Hey guys, I have a plan to turn my 97 Prelude into a show car, and I am going to be doing alot of work to it in the next 6-12 months...
Here is my predicament...
I am planning on painting the car hot pink body, black roof hood and trunk lid...
I want to redo the interior the same colors as well... Black and pink leather seats, trim, lights, carpet, etc... the whole 9 yards..
Unfortunately, I can not locate anyone who can send me the leather seat upholstery, and can not find a new all black carpet or anything.
Can anyone direct me to a website that deals with custom interior work, where they can send me the leather seats and what not? I tried Katzkin, but they don't do anything for Preludes. I called them, and left a message to call me back, but haven't heard anything back yet.
So are there any other places out there that you can think of that can do this for me?
Your car, do as you want. Ignore anyone that wants to tell anyone otherwise just because it's not their "taste".
Your best bet is to go to a reupholstery shop and have them either make you new seat covers - or check on places like ebay for aftermarket leather upholstery/ actual leather seats for a 5th gen. There is one place out there that sells aftermarket "skins" for the 5th gen front and back seats but i can't remember it off the top of my head (if i remember it i'll pm you....).
Hot pink isn't anything new - i've seen 2 with a similar color scheme as you are suggesting. Yellow, there is actually a "gold/yellow" color that was an EDM color for 5th gens. - Just tossing out some extra info.
I never said pink was ORIGINAL... But I can tell you this, I have seen 2 preludes in the city area that I live in (5th gen) and none of them are pink. And I've only seen 2 or 3 on the entire internet that are hot pink.
None of which were done the way I want to do mine.
I want a car, that when people drive by, they HAVE to turn their heads, and as any 5th gen Prelude owner knows, the car already does that by itself.
Its going to be a show car, not a car that I will be racing, or anything like that.
SPECIFICALLY for show!
So, I'm open to suggestions, if you think a different color scheme would look better, by all means, let me know and I'll take any into consideration.

And by the way, its called Katzkin. They can make and send all new leather upholstery. For apparently almost ANY make and model car.
As soon as I see anyone start talking about a "show-car" prelude this is what comes to mind...
They rice the hell out of a perfectly good prelude, cover everything on the car in a thick coating of armor-all as if that helps. Then they usually slap some hood rat 20 inch chrome rims on it. Not to mention offensive paint jobs like hot pink to top it all off.
I recommend selling your prelude before you further add to the Honda stereotype.

2 tone=fail, don't know why everyone assumes that to have a show car you have to have a tacky looking exterior, a show car should be clean.
+1 excellent!!!!!!!
I just wanna add that a show car should have original color, or at least painted back to original color. All original in and out.
A show car Prelude is basically redone to be a brand new Prelude.
Painting the hood and roof etc black is not show car status. Aftermarket enhancements are NOT show car status.
This is what show car means to me unless I am missing the point here. Even if you make a Ricer Prelude that is 100% mint and new, I just dont see how that is gonna make it a show car.
oh and Preludes make people turn their heads anyways. I have almost 100% stock lude and people break their necks daily. They look like a pitcher in baseball right after hanging a pitch for a HR. Comon man.
If you do what you are planning to do, yeah people will turn their heads to say "wtf is that thing"?
^ man all you guys, jsut cant let the guy do what he wants.
Not all show cars are in stock shape, Most of them actually are not stock, thats why you never see stock prelude in magazine silly.
Example; there was a girl on here named carol, who had a prelude featured in a magazine with a JRSC, mugen front, carbon fiber plug and painted cf hood, as well as many other non stock parts, was a very slick lude.
hell, if the kid wants to paint the damn thing pink let him, its his car.
as for show car, well any car can be show car, it just depends on the quality of craftsmenship and the attention to detail.

Its hilarious to see people actually believe that 'head turning' is something to strive for.
Ever stop to wonder why people are 'turning their head'? Its because they are laughing at what a complete tool you are to spend money on something that looks completely stupid.
It's just like guidos from Jersey.. nobody thinks you're cool.
I'm new here and don't really know much about the...dynamics but I think you would've been a lot more successful if you had kept your desired color scheme to yourself.
That said, if you want to have Barbie's Prelude, more power to you and I wish you the best of luck. Redlingoods makes custom leather interiors, you might want to give them a ring. If not, +1 on the custom interior reply. You should check out your local upholstery shops. I know a there are a bunch of places in SOCAL that make custom interior but mostly in vinyl. Custom leather might be expensive but if you want a "show car", they're NOT CHEAP. The ebay leather 'skins' are cheap looking and are ill-fitting. May as well go to O'Reilly's or Kragen's for mods if you're going to go that route.
Again, good luck with this and please do post pics of your brainchild as soon as its all done. Perhaps we'll all be dazzled and will turn our heads!

yes, it's your car and ultimately you should do whatever you want with it, but you are asking opinions of many people so expect different answers. Many purists will disagree with what you are doing. Should you listen to people? of course not, its your decision on what you wanna do. It's not our job to agree with what you are doing with your car. For example I don't have to like your ideas but in no way shape or form I am telling you NOT to do it.
My suggestion is if you wanna go the route you are planning, do something original. A 2 tone car with panels painted black has been done millions of times. Come up with something new. The interior u wanna do has also been done ridiculous amounts of times. There is nothing wrong to rice out a vehicle as long as it's originally done. It's boring to see the same thing all the time. Color of the car doesn't mean anything, You can make a hot pink Prelude that is clean and will look dope if done right. it's the mods and the specs that make it.
Don't let people's opinions deter you from your plans. Many people think that Obama sucks and Lady Gaga sucks. People will always be critical. accept that.

First off, I HATE body kits, such as this one.
And I will not be adding a body kit to my car.
Secondly, the funny thing is, is I wasn't asking anyones opinion on the color, simply asking if anyone knows any custom interior places.
To talk down on someones idea simply shows your immaturity.
Do I think the Pink prelude on here is nice? No i do not. Not the color pink i was going for, nor the look.
The 2 tone color was simply to offset the pink, and dont get me wrong, not entirely set on pink.
But the work that i do, and the craftsmenship that gets put into the cars i redo, ALL look good.
It doesn't matter if I paint the car pink, orange, yellow, black, white, etc. There are always going to be critics to it, and I dont particularly care.
Again... I wasn't asking for any opinions on the color scheme. And regardless of how I paint it, I will post pictures of it, so the people who think it will look "tacky" or "riced out" will be able to eat their own words.
I dont "rice out" cars, and everything I do has tastefulness to it.
So keep your immature comments to yourself, I will do what I want, and it will look good. Pink or not.
P.S. And when you look at pink cars, don't assume it will look anything like mine.
