I have a 1997 Honda Prelude that will not pass NH inspection due to emmissions. The car has DC sports Headers, and a APEXI N1 Cat-Back exhaust. The cat is stock. The first time, it said it was the rear O2 sensor, so I changed that. Now it says it is the cat & the rear O2 (which is already changed). I think the next step would be the cat, but just want to make sure. I drove the car for over 200 miles after the O2 got changed, so it's not because I haven't driven it.
What's the test? Are they pulling CEL codes or using a sniffer?

Anyway, the codes are P140 and P420 (o2 and cat)....But the o2 has already been changed and the first time I went for inspection, the computer said rear o2 and NOT the cat. Now that the o2 is changed, it says both.
I guess you can ignore me if you want. I'll go help someone else.

hi, i actually have a silly question, so im gonna apologize in advance for asking a question in your thread (though it is related-ish), and for asking such a dumb question.
so, i was told to pass air care/emissions test (every 2 years where i live) for old vehicles (such as my prelude), im supposed to do the test with all STOCK parts? for example, if i were to change exhaust, i would have to replace my stock just for the test? doesnt make sense logically, but thats what i heard. wondering if anyone can confirm that for me. thanks!
Haha sorry Kronn 98SH....I didn't see the bottom of your post. It is the NH inspection emissions test. They plug from a computer into the car below the radio on the passenger side. It is a standard procedure for all cars 1996 or newer in NH.
Hope this helps, and all of your help is much appreciated!! THANK YOU!

Where do you live? If it's Cali, just leave it stock or move. Too many tree-huggers there creating headaches for modded cars.

So they didn't hook anything up to the tailpipe to check emission levels? Is your CEL still on and throwing a code, or did their scanner just read "not ready" during your most recent inspection?

hi, im from canada BC. so you're saying cali requires you to put on stock for tests? if thats the case, i wouldnt be surprised if my area has to as well...
No, you don't have to be completely stock in Cali, but you have to use "carb" approved parts and other b.s. to be legal. It all just depends on your local government regulations. Luckily I don't have to deal with emissions testing at all where I live. I could have radioactive nuclear waste, baby blood, and cyanide spewing from my tailpipe and still register my car . You are probably not so fortunate. I am not aware of the exact emission standards in Canuck-land, but since you have to go through emission testing it might be a good idea to ask around. There are several Canuck members here, one of them should be able to enlighten you about the specifics, but I'm sure you don't have to be completely stock to pass an inspection.
thanks for the input. i personally think its ridiculous if they require stock, because its not the stock stuff i'll be using, so i'll still be creating emissions after i put my stuff back on.
