Tried Hondata just for fun...

A good friend of mine is a Hondata distributor here in Houston from Autologic. His name is Jason and he is very well known in the area for tuning cars. Well anyway, I was hanging out the other night when he came across a problem in a friend's car. Seems that his Hondata was acting up. So he asked if he could plug it into my car and see if it is doing the same thing (both cars were 2001 Ludes). I said ok, so for that he burned a chip from their website from the European Model Prelude (1st gen H22 I believe). He plugged it in and said ok, your good to go, but if it acts dumb then don't play around with it and bring it right back. Well everything seems to be good, he told me that I had a 8500 rpm redline now. So I took off and rolled unto the highway. Wow what a difference, I mean it's not even tuned for my car (which only has a catback on it). Shifting at 8500 (well I was really guessing cause our tachs are off and I didn't have any numbers after 8K anyway) was a blast. I pulled off the highway with a smile on my face and got unto a side road. A 2.8L Z3 pulled up and tried to gie me a run from a stop. I pulled away from him at the line and my lead grew with every shift.

Anyway without futher adue, I am going to buy Hondata for the daily driven Prelude when I can afford it. I am thinking about leaving the 8500 redline when I get it tuned and installed though. For the price it is an awesome program.

Sorry to tell you but the 8400RPM redline you see on our tachs is really around 7400RPM. You shouldn't redline to true 8500 rpm with the stock valvetrain in the first place(valve float). You'll most likley break something and cause lots of damage!

If you decide to keep an 8500rpm redline on a stock bottom end I feel sorry for you. Your engine won't last along, plus you're not making any power up there anyway.

Well I think a guy gained like 10 hp with an S100 and no mods from Alberta with an EBP he's on the board. Fuel tuning that precise is nice, but there's no need to rev to 8500

yeap that's me. I don't have NO mods, I have a DC header and exhaust, and a Hondata stage 3b, and I gained almost 11whp just from tuning the A/F.

Do you have an SS or a 5spd? 161.1 hp is very low for a the mods you have if its a 5spd.

Yeah, that's true, but this was done on a Mustang dyno, and I've heard Mustang dyno numbers are 10-15% lower the Dynojet numbers. And also I'm at a 4000foot elevation. And I have a 5 speed.

I get pretty close to stock actually. Its not even that noticable. Before the Hondata, I would get roughly 500km's to a tank (that's if I baby it), and now I probably get like 475km's to a tank if I baby it. Not really that noticable. It was roughly 2 hours worth of tuning, so I had to pay for 2 hours of dyno time and tuning. Which wasn't too bad, less than $200 canadian.
