trans swap

My friend is doing a trans swap on his 98 lude and he needs to know if the trans mounts are welded on on the ludes that came with a manual or did they just bolt up. or should he be fine and not have to worry about that.

if he is doing a manual-manual swap, he should be ok with his existing mounts; but for an auto-manual swap, he will need to get the mounting bracket from a manual prelude (auto/manual brackets do not line up).

But to answer your question; the bracket bolts onto the "frame"; no welding involved.

The transmission mounts are just bolted on; but there are 2 parts to the transmission mount... the "round" piece, and the "triangle" piece; he will need both to put an M2Y4 in an automatic.

Also, the rear engine mounts are different... You *can* use the automatic rear engine mount, but it lacks one of the mounting holes for the transmission; so in theory, he would be better off with the M/T rear engine mount... personally, I went with the M/T mount, but I had the luxury of having a full parts car when I did this swap.

And one other thing of note; the Automatic and Manual break pedals are different- the A/T brake pedal is about 5" wide, where the M/T brake pedal is about 2.5" wide... you *can* fit the clutch next to the A/T pedal, but it gets in the way when you use the clutch.

V/r,
Mike

EDIT:
For future searches, here is a good pic of all 4 engine mounts; and conveniently; a place to buy them: Honda Automotive Parts
