trans nightmare

So, heres the quick version. Job doesnt allow me much time to finish my stage 3 clutch job (99 SH). Father decided to help out, tow my car to his mechanic to do the finishing touches, which was only an axle. His mechanic put the axle in, but didnt fill the tranny up with oil, or the atts unit with tranny fluid. They drive the car back to me and tell me that it grinds 2nd now, and 5th gear keeps coming out of gear. They DROVE IT 230 miles... with no fluids. I get the car immeadeatly figure out whats going on. Fill it with fluids. The 5th gear issue is gone, but 2nd continues to grind when shifting to 2nd or down shifting to 2nd. I can shift smoothly into 2nd if i shift extremely slow. Just re-drained the tranny and the fresh oil i jus put in 2 days ago, with 30 miles on it, is completely black. My guess is the blackness is whats left of 2nd gear snycro in the form of metallic shavings. But what makes NO sense at all, is why would 2nd snycro burn out when the majority of the damage was done at 70 on the interstate when driving it back to my house? Thoughts? comments and any ideas would be appreciated. Only other info i can give you is that 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and R, shift like butter, no problems at all...just 2nd gear grinds. thanks

Best you can try is some synchromesh, pick your brand.

If that doesn't help, tranny is toast.

If the axle that wasn't installed was on the passenger side there would obviously be a pretty large opening in the tranny. Good reason to check for oil. Not that it shouldn't have been checked anyway but I'd think there'd be a pretty good reason to have talk with the mechanic.

Ya, tell me about it, hmmm.. axle missing out of tranny.. should i check the fluid.....nah.. let it ride! I was a honda/acura mechanic before i joined the air force, so all the mechanics of it is common sense to me. Here is the update. After draining the fluid, and adding fresh, with 1 qt 10w30, and Lucas trans additive, it will shift to 2nd smooth now, if you are forward shifting, but down shifting, still TOAST. Pretty sure the 2nd gear sync is TOAST. At this point, im gonna drive it to work everyday (which is 4.4 miles, 8.8 round trip) no biggie. Started saving for new tranny and mounts (EFF it why not while its all out). I dont want the SH tranny again, the ATTS unit is to much of a pain. I have read that integra trannys can bolt to the h22a4 that came in this car (99 SH). So, whats the best, dont care the price, and what else will i need to do, I.E. axles, mounts, shift linkage, ecu flash ect. Gimme some love plz, and TY MOFOS for the quick responses!

You can bolt it up, with a H2B kit... but the shift linkage would be a rod type..
rather than the cable linkage (dont know if thats the correct term)
-unless there something you know, that I dont- NOT A GOOD CHOICE

the cost of the H2B kit is more than the correct transmision..
transmisios can be had for a low as 100-500. you can use an accord (longer gears) h23 (slightly shorter gearing than the accord)
