Tranny Trashing??

I am beginning to think a lot of this recent tranny trashing is comming from people who don't even own a lude. Or maybe these people drive the piss out of it and think it should last with constant abuse. I have read trashings for the manual and SS and I am sure there are some failures but good grief, It appears there is a lot of bandwagon riding going on...

My tranny blew 2 days ago without any real warning and i think i have a right to be upset about it. And YESi can drive my car and i dont abuse it. I take pretty good care of my car and dont appreciate someone saying it happened because of abuse.

there are just too many people that are having troubles with their trannies.

It is obviously a problem from the start. If someone's tranny grinds with in 5k of owning the car, there is defantly a manufacturing problem.

Explain to me why I had to pay $2k for a tranny rebuild (wouldn't go into first more than half the time, 4-5 grind, reverse didn't engage 50% of the time) and my Honda Service Contract was voided because of fvcking springs.

Didn't it start in 97?

It's hard to believe Honda would let this problem go on for 5 model years. I have owned Honda's all my driving life and I have nothing but good performance.

Thx. Put my white Volk TE-37's today too.

It's possible that I may just have a lemon, but many other Prelude drivers have experienced the same problems.

Honda lets this go because it happens only on perhaps 30% of cars or so and can you imagine how expensive it would be to recall 5th Gen Preludes for a transmission rebuild? That's approximately $700+ in labor right there.

mine auto is 5 years old and works great. i just ordered a fluidyne tranny cooler so hopefully this helps. i only have a tick over 52700 miles. i use B&M trick shift fluid. it shifts nice and hard. once in a great while i can get it to chirp from first to second. do any of you do a lot of highway driving? i'm sure this is a contributing factor. just think of the heat your tranny produces after going 70+ mph. in the summer, my radiator fans turn on like crazy after i've been on the highway. i sit and let the car cool down for about 10 minutes. hope i've helped.

Well I had my car go in for the stupid 5th gear grind. They ended up replacing 1st 3rd and 5th gears, their sleeves and synchros. Thank god for warranty because that bill racked up to be 1300 bux. Now it works like a charm with no problems. That is the only transmission trouble I had on my 2000 lude manual.
