hey ya'll... i searched the archives and really couldnt find anything helpful of which links that worked...
i havce a 01 honda prelude with 97k miles and it's an auto
this morning i turn my car on and notice when i turned the car on the P was in red but then the D4 also light up on the dash for a second then went away... i thought weird... then check engine came on
i went to autozone and go tthe codes
p0700 (said see the other code)
and p0758 (tranny stuck in 4th gear)
i have not noticed anything bad in the tranny, it hit vtec well and drove fine... now it's in limp mode and i called the dealership about the extended warrenty which i do qualify for, thank you jesus... but this is my question
i know dealerships wqill do anything to make a buck, but whern i called them and told them the code and problem the man on the phone said it could be a solenoid B which i have NO idea what that is....
he said they have to do a test on it to make sure this that the other and find out the problem... is this a problem that will get my tranny replaced for free, or will they try to sell me some bandaids to just patch the problem w/o losing or not making any money off of it??
how does the tranny get stuck in 4th gear but still drives fine??
you got a SS lude my friend at the top of 5th Gen General Discussion there is a whole thread devoted to it. I have a 99 with an SS but so far no problems
same thing happened to me about 6 weeks ago, then 3 weeks later, it went out completly and im out of warranty... do yourself a favor and have this taken care of asap if its warranty then check and find out exactly what if anything youll have to pay for, this will be a huge headache if it is your only means of transportation and it goes out like mine did...
get it to the dealer as soon as you can. hopefully it needs a new transmission. that way you will have a brand new tranny as a selling point for when you put it up for sale. Avoid the SS preludes like the plague. Trust me when I tell you, NOTHING you do will help the tranny. No amount of fluid changes, tranny coolers, wishing, praying, hoping, will save you from the unavoidable failure.

QFT! im in the middle of a transmission swap because i got lazy and decided i didnt want to deal with a clutch in stop and go traffic anymore so bought a ss after i sold my truck.. it was literally the biggest automotive mistake i have ever made...
they said that they must FIRST replace the solenoid (and screw me out of 600 bucks with taxes) THEN if it continues, lookin into a replacement tranny
so here is my plan guys
1. order this part
2. get a local buddy to do labor at 50/h (he saidit should be under hour work)
3. ride around and clear the CEL
4. hope it stays off (im at 98k miles)
5. if it comes on within 2k miles then tell them i need a tranny
i called honda and spoke with several ppl there and they said there is no way to tell if that will make it better but they said it should just only be the solenoid.
can you guys PLEASE help me out, im broke college kid and im kinda iffy on this.
Have them replace it under warranty! Why would it cost you $500? Anyhow, you can just replace the solenoid if you want and then see if that fixes it. If it does, sell the car as quickly as you can. I can't stress this enough. This trans will fail. It's not a question of if, but a question of when. I had about 125K miles on mine when it started to make funny noises and hold 1st, slam into 2nd, not want to shift out of 2nd, etc. I drive 99% highway miles, always changed the fluid, didn't drive it hard and even had an external oil cooler and that didn't help.

I'm pretty sure he already knows how unreliable the SS's are, no need to tell him that.
Heres a couple of questions you need to ask yourself, and then find the answers to:
What dictates you getting a new tranny free of charge under this warranty?
What can YOU do in less than 2k miles to achieve this so your covered.
How long will it take and what will you have to expend to get the tranny swapped under warranty(rental car; hidden fee's/taxes/charges of any sort).
...Dude, you've been on this site for a while, we don't need to tell you any more(you've said some pretty good info on previous posts that I didn't know about at least). I'm not sayin no more help, I'm just tryin to get people from postin stuff I know you already know. Now its time for you to get this finished with no skin off your bones.
Good luck.
Now I read it's not covered under warranty, this isn't good. This question goes out to all who reads this: Is it possible for someone to break an SS in less than 1k miles? Try your hardest to get a new tranny, go to another dealer if you have to.

constantly drive it in tiptronic mode, and shift as high rpm as you can get and as fast as you can, especially 3-4th gear that usually does it...
(i do not recommend this because i dont know if it will work or if you will get caught) but taking out your used trans fluid, running it dangerously low on fluid untill it fails, then putting the used fluid you took out back in...
