Well, I took my fuel rail off for the EGR thing, put it back on, ir started leaking(not spraying everywhere, just a thin stream) gas from the passenger-most injector, and maybe even the inside-passenger injector. So I spen the last 3 days goin through hell to get some new O-ring, get them this mornin, put 'em on, and then, from the drivers side fuel inj/rail area, a spray of gas gushes out, and leaks 5 times more than id did before from the other side.
What are typicle areas of leakage, I'm gonna get someone later on today to start it for me, and so I can see it leaking(for as little time as possible, I don't want a fire to start).
My main question though is, on the side of the injector that the fuel rail plugs into, there is a small black cap that goes sort of inside the injector, and covers the lip, but mine only has them on the inside two injectors. Are they supposed to be on the outside two aloso(maybe I lost them)?
...But if it was leaking because of that, then the passenger-most side would be leaking too, right?
I don't expect anyone to know for sure, because it is such an obscure question, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
The caps you're thinking off are the filters. You should be able to pull them out of the injector. When they are out you should see little filter screens attached to them. All 4 injectors need them on! They might have fallen out when you removed the injectors. Hopefully that will fix your fuel leak.
just a quick checklist:
-when you remove your injectors, you should replace the all the o-rings.
-there is 4 plastic retainers and 4 o-rings that go between the injectors and the intake manifold.
-make sure the o-rings that are between the injectors and fuel rail are not ripped.
-there are 4 rubber spacers that also go between the injectors and the fuel rail.
-there are 4 filters that go in each injector.
-when replacing rubber parts, I lubricate them. in this case i used some gas, in other cases perhaps (new engine)/oil.
Thank you very much rpwolf, but I unfortunately already found all of this out the hard way, but now I need to get my hands on one of those little black plastic injector filters, does anybody know where I could buy one??? Anyone?
The first set of new o-rings I put on got ripped when I took off the fuel rail the last time to diagnose the last leak. So I ordered some new o-rings...again.. and will get them tomorrow, But like I said, I still need that little filter thing, so my lude is out of commission until I get a hold of that.
I think I'm gonna use that bit of info about lubricating them, maybe that will help. Can I use motor oil for the small o-rings that go on the end of the injector that the fuel rail slides over? Or will it mess something up(the injectors?)?
You could try getting it from the dealers. They might sell you one seperately. If not, just try the junk yards. It doesn't have to be that particular color as most other Honda injector filters will fit and are also whitish in color. The 92-96 Prelude ones fit so does other Hondas. If all else fails, I have a few spare and I'll post you one in a letter. Postage shouldn't cost more than a few (i'm in the UK currently)
First off, I tried an auto parts place today(the one that got me the O-rings) and they didn't have them. So I called the dealer and they said I'd have to buy an entire injetor for $180.
Secondly, Your right, I think junk yards will be next, and then I will go to the dealer and talk to one of the mechanics themselves and see if one of them can, as a personal favor, get me one for a few bucks or somethin.
However, First, I'm using an air compressor to try and blow out the old one, it has top be caught somewhere in my engine bay, most likely under the IM.
Laslty, thank you very much for the offer, but I don't know how I could get the money to you, as I may end up having no chioce if I can't find any in a junk yard for some reason. once again thank you for the offer, I might take you up on that.
Yikes! $180 just to get the filter?! Well if you're stuck I'll just send you one. It costs next to nothing to send a letter so ill just pop 2 in a letter and send it to you, if you still can't get them. Don't worry about the money, glad to help.
Let me know. Good luck.
For one, I work for the United States Postal Service, I'm pretty sure they run the letters through roller machines to help sort them if I remember the factory correctly, so if you send 'em in an envelope, they might get crushed. Sending them in a higher postage may be needed, and I also want them here pretty quick.
Secondly, man this is to big of a favor, I'm willing to put a few bucks in your wallet for you for the trouble(unfortunately, if I give you 10 bucks, its worth only five over there since our econ. is in the dumps ;D ), and of course I'll pay you shipping fees, because depending on speed, it may cost more than we think. Let me check with my supervisor about how you can get it here, and I can pay for shipping, and what level of shipping it will require. I will PM you later today, or tomorrow.
Thank you so very much for this favor, this is the best thing thats happend to me and the Lude in the last week(cause everything else thats happened has sucked!)
macegrove, I just did some extensive searching for that little part, and blew it out of oblivion with an air compressor. Just put the lude back together and started it, so far no leaks, but I'm gonna take it for a cruise in an hour(forgot to check oil, so I'm, gonna let it cool down to check it before I drive it anywhere).
Thank you so very much for the help and offer, I was about 3 hours away from giving up and just askin you to ship me one.
Thats ace. If it aint leaking when you start at then theres a big chance it won't leak anymore. Enjoy your drive & hope you get trouble-free motoring from now on.
