I went with nitto 555's 205, 40. And yes wheel size would make a difference between scraping or not. 18" rims would give an additional 1'' clearance since you measure by diameter

Yea but if you were with 18' and a 40 tire your performance would really suffer do to larger tottal diameter and increased weight.
