This thing I found in the trans oil

I have a puzzle for anyone who has seen the inside of an automatic trans: When I changed automatic trans fluid on my 01 Prelude, I found this disappointing little chunk of aluminum in the drain pan:
anyone got a guess as to what this might be? By the way no problems with the trans or the car in general.

you sure it's aluminum? if you take a knife to it, can you cut it (is it soft)?
looks like a microchip of some sort left over from the factory. O_o

shimee -
good idea to check it. I scraped it with a knife and it appears to be plastic. Scraping it, I first scraped a layer of what seemed to be copper-colored paint off, underneath its black plastic. Then I broke it in half by accident.

Oh well, maybe the trans will develop some problems in the future; I wont really be able to determine if this had anything to do with it. (Now I will just worry about it.)

I have not run into something like this before, but I was wondering if there is someone on this list who works in a transmission shop, or does a lot of trans fluid changes --- maybe it can be identified.

Perhaps it's something that fell in when the tranny oil was being replaced. Either that, or....dun dun dun! Something might be wrong with your tranny. Before my auto tranny went out, the only thing I found was a crap load of metal shavings... =/

maybe this is the thing we've all been looking for. The thing that started it all. The object that actually is at the bottom of "the ruining" of every 5th gen SS. This is the breakthrough part that ruins every SS out there.

...Or maybe not.

Bring it to a transmission shop and see what they say. I am really curious.
