And most of them are poorly made, leak around the flange and end up taking more power away then having a cat would all while making your car smell like crap. Been there, done that, it's not worth it.
Pollution is slight on a well maintained H22. You want to stop pollution go after all the two stroke lawn mowers. With the way emissions are in most states a few cars without cats won't hardly do anything compared to all the lawn mowers being used out there.
My car has a a test pipe. It's not pretty to look at, but has good welds on it. It doesn't make the car any louder, but my exhaust is stock. It does make the car stink at stoplights and stop signs though. Smells like exhaust with a faint touch of burning oil sometimes. I'll probably put a high flow cat on eventually to get rid of the smell.

I have one right now too and stock exhaust. Even resonated I promise it is louder than the factory cat.

yeah, there's no way it isn't a little louder. The cat's interior acts as a second resonator, test pipe.....just a tube. Wouldn't it have to be louder with that logic.
No definitely don't do that... my 01 sounded terrible before i put a full catback on it b/c the previous owner thought it would be a great idea to cut it off.
if you've got an SH not only will you throw the o2 code but also you'll set the atts light off.
so yes i have one and that's why i have a code eraser riding shotgun....
i can't find those antifouler....has anybody been successful w/ those?
oh and probably you won't see tons different unless you put a full header on it .....

->Keep it Real
They are supposed to be at an auto parts store like auto zone or advanced auto parts. There is a write up out there somewhere. I think you are supposed to get the 18mm sparkplug defouler and drill out the center with a 1/2" bit.
I know I'm bumping an old thread, but I'm curious as to where you guys got your test pipe from.
I'm pretty sure that my cat is bad as I keep getting the P0420 code. On top of that I am getting a rattle from the shield around the converter, so I'd like to just throw a test pipe on it. I want to keep the rest of the exhaust stock though.
My car came with it in place, but I'm sure you can find them on eBay. It's really not worth it. I plan on putting a high flow cat on soon. The smell at stoplights alone is enough to forget about the slight increase in power.

+1 The smell turns my stomach after a while. If you get a high flow cat you get the best of both worlds, performance and non annoyance.
