Test Pipe performance?

Does anyone (preferrably with a Mugen header) have any experience with a 2.5" test pipe? Do you have any performance numbers or ideas on the gains it would yeild?

Even without a Mugen header the gains are very good. I noticed on my car that with a short ram intake, test pipe, and straight through muffler the performance was much better than stock. The only problem was that you could hear VTEC from more than a mile away and it tends to drone inside of the car. I put my cat back on and the car runs smoother, quieter, and slower.

I had a test pipe on my SS, and I really didn't like it. It felt good in the higher rpms but I lost a lot of bottom end, not the greatest thing for a daily driver. I'm just ordered a high flow cat so I can post my results back with it.

i dont understand how you lost bottom end since you are making your exhahust less restrictive, unless the piping after the cat is too big ?

I had a test pipe with my N1 and my Thermal...

The test pipe DOES add noticable power gains along with making any exhaust twice as loud

how do you guys think a test pipe would sound on an already quiet exhaust like the WS?? i'm thinking about getting one but I don't want it too loud but it would hurt to make the WS a little bit louder. Anybody have any experience??

my car lost all its balls down low after i put the testpipe in, and it didnt really feel all too good up top. I do however still have the stock exhaust, my N1 is still on order. That better help my top end or ill be pissed.

You don't necessarily want it more restrictive...restriction makes it worse....

A narrower pipe has a higher velocity of the exhaust gasses, think blowing through a straw instead of blowing through a toilet-paper roll...that velocity helps torque by keeping everything moving at a good pace.

Now when your engine is built up and you are producing much more exhaust gas (think turbo)...suddenly that straw is TOO small, the toilet paper roll is perfect, but anything larger is going back to the beginning...

Does that makes sense?

So with a cat-back exhaust and eventually a Greddy or DC-Sports Header....which is better 2.25" or 2.5" I'll probably put the test pipe in before the header goes in though. I want the best for performance and to help aid in quietness I'm thinking of the test pipe just being a resonator.

ive been running my test pipe forever. Its not that much louder. i used it with Stock, Greddy Evo, and now with my DC. Its nice for sure. It frees up some of the ponies, and im in cali. Its just to easy to swap it out when you need to get smogged, so why not use it. Lol it cost me 30$ to have one made. They are really simple. I would reccomend them for everyone. The gains are great.

Yea i think my low end is good, the only guys that should worry about low end is auto guys. Not guys with 5 speeds. All we gotta worry about is top end. Where real racing is at in the RPM band. For hondas that is.
