tempted to waste some money for some peace of mind.

The lude now has 133K miles on it... for a 1998. little sounds are starting to become more apparent to me... or Im just looking for problems.... because the car hasnt been in the shop for anything major in awhile... even since the new tranny.

I know I need new brakes and oil change... but thats just standard maintenace.

Im tempted to bring it to the dealership for an full inspection... to get some trained eyes/ears on my lude and hunt out any problems. Fluids, etc have been fine.... I dunno.. Im just worried..because thier isnt a problem... my car cant be this reliable...( though it is technically my first honda.)

Do you think this is silly?

Nothing wrong with preventive maintenance.

Fish, are you near Raleigh?

I bought my Lude at Leith, and I can say their service department is very good. They never tried to overcharge me, and their analysis was always spot on.

Going to a dealership for trained eyes and ears is like going to the beauty counter at JC Penny's to diagnose the skin infection that new blush you bought just caused.

Find someone local that you can trust & start there. The dealer will find a whole lot of stuff that is wrong, none of which is their fault, related to your noises, or even necessary to fix (or real problems).

If you can't find someone local you trust you can come to the dealership in Lawrence. You can trust them.

I go through car paranoia occasionally too, but all of these subtle little things you notice are just a result of having the car for a long time and getting to know it really well. I bet passengers don't have the slightest idea that anything sounds abnormal. Honestly I think cars just start to age and make new sounds/vibrations/rattles etc. that have no impact on reliability- just our perception as owners.. I really doubt your car needs anything fixed, and other than winding back the clock I don't think there is a way to fix it. I'm used to it now, but everytime I deliver a new vehicle I wonder if my Prelude was that smooth and quiet when it was new. For a car with 107k miles I really can't complain though, I've seen a lot of domestics start to fall apart at 40k.

My lude has 149K on the OD. It is a 1997 Base. I love the thing. Does it make a bunch of crazy noises? Hell yes. Does it still pull pretty good to 8k? Hell yes. I got the car used at 43k. The eibachs have been on it since then. I know that the drop has negatively influcned the chassis, it was not built to be lowered. And I know that ****ty springs and shocks, have made it make crazy suspension noises, and now to remedy this, I've ordered a HP KIT.
I think that genteman/woman who asked about taking the lude in for maintience because its not broke, is kinda being overzealous. I think that hondas do, in fact preform for a lifetime, if maintained pretty well, I stress not perfectly maintained. And i do also think that unless there is a driveline problem (like, for instance, my car bounces kinda, is real rough, and the motor ticks a bit, but not as bad as b4 my 1st valuve adj, so I know i'll need another valuve adjustment, and like I said springs and struts at the least) and then bring it in. If you bring in a car to honda and say, "it squeaks and makes carzy noises they will take one look at your 5th gen and think your an idiot with a bunch of money, who wants more credit card debt. they will procede to write you a several thousand dollar estiate that has for the most part, nothing to do with making you car better. I would not just take it to any honda dealer beucase I dont trust them, eventho my local dealer helped me once, once I brougt it in and got it back with a broken sway bar mount. I'd rather drive the thing and listen for serious problems, like knock and ping, or suspension bottoming out, or the exaust all of a sudden spitting out madddd smoke. or whatever, I wouldn't bring the car in and ask them anything, I think your better off looking for more power, better braking, and turning. The lude is ok, and when its not you will get signs, good thing its a honda cause unless youre areal dumbass, it will not leave you stranded (oh unless you don't have sno tyres in the sno)
