Suspension questions.

I'm looking into getting my car lowered and had some questions. I'm planning on doing AutoCross with my car in the future but still want to use it as a daily driver and was wondering what a good setup for that would be. I'm looking into Koni Yellows and possibly H&R springs. I was thinking of a 1.5" drop but is it worth it to go 2.0"? I've read that it sometimes rubs in hard turns. Also, are shocks and springs worth it or is it just better to spend the extra money and go straight for coilovers?

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you replace your springs, it puts you in a more competitive class, thereby making you spend much, much, more money just to stay competitive. You need to specify if you want to be racing to win, or just for kicks.

Yes, you need to consider what class you will be in if you want to be competitive.

I NEVER recommend a greater than a 1" drop for the street. you will find yourself bashing the header or maybe the oil pan and tearing up the front lip if you have one.

Tanabe Sustec Super H are the springs you want and KYB AGX adjustable shocks if you can afford to change them out too. For that matter, a set of Konis and GC coilovers are even better... or a set of Tom's coilovers for the 90-93 Accord (dead nuts copy of the GCs for half price).

If you are going to autocross with any seriousness forget any "lowering" springs or "sport" springs. They are too soft and you will still get tons of body roll and your turn-in will be turtle slow as a result. I speak from experience. I autocrossed on H&R Sports for a year. Then I got Ground Controls with custom rates. Night & Day difference.

The Tanabe website lists springs with different model codes...are the Sustec Super H's the GF210's?

Some info on the GF210's from Tanabe's website:
"The GF210 coil spring is geared towards maximum performance, without compromising daily driveability. A subtle drop provides an aggressive stance, while the higher spring rates (+20% - 30% over stock) provide excellent handling and vehicle stability characteristics."

Model..........Year....Spring Rates........Drop Rate...........Part #.........MSRP
......................................F/R......................F/R........................................

Prelude.......92-96......5.0 / 4.0..............1.3 / 1.0.........TGF008......$230.00
Prelude.......97-02......4.5 / 4.8...............1.0 / 0.8.........TGF020......$230.00

The best advice for your situation (and I think many would agree) is to find a set of used Koni Sports and send them to Koni to have them revalved. This will replace all the normal wear items inside the shock, so basically you would be getting back brand new shocks. Plus you can have them valve the shocks to better serve a dual purpose car. OTS, the Koni shocks are soft. Much softer than I'd prefer. However, if you have them revalve them, they can go from a street valving, to dual purpose, or even full race valving.

Then go with Ground Control coilover sleeves specially made for the Koni Sports. I'd suggest you go with 450 lb/in front and rear, and go from there. The springs are cheap, so you can experiment with different rates.

I've gone through so many suspension setups it's not even funny. For a dual purpose car, I have yet to see anything that beats the above. Beware, it's very easy to go too stiff. At a track event this weekend, I found this out the hard way. My car is waaaaaaaaay oversprung. I really beats you up on the track because it's so stiff.

I don't believe Tanabe makes the Super H spring set anymore.
