A super quick guide to wiring an APEXI VAFC

I just got my VAFC in and I spent about an hour reading up on how to wire it. Now let me be the first to tell you that I don't know everything there is to wire the VAFC so I kinda put this small picture togather (taken from APEXI-USA.com and fixed up a little to make it slightly easier to read. If anyone has anymore knowledge, tips, or .02c that they want to add please do so becuase eventually we need a thread that covers a complete wire and install of the VAFC. So here's my part:

Hey thanks bro. This is extremely useful. Question though. So the other end of the VTM Signal wire is NOT connected to anything now? Do you just tape it off? Would this be the same wiring diagram for the VAFC2?

yeah the other end of the VTM signal will not be connected to anything and should be taped off or whatever you wanan do to ensure that there's no metal exposed.
The VAFC2 diagram is the same with the exception (from what i've read) that there are a few more wires to connect. There are some other initial setup things. go to http://www.apexi-usa.com/productdocu...ics_vafcII.pdf to get the setup manual.

VTM should be connected to the VAFC. Look at the updated manual on Apexi's Website. Not doing this will periodically give you a CEL.

i just finished my VAFC install and instead of having to strip the power, ground, throttle, and RPM wires i purchased "Wire tap-ins" from radio shack that allowed my to "tap" into the wire withouth cutting any of the insulation off.... heres a picture. It can be purchased here:

radioshack.com - wire tap-ins

I recommend doing this over what NTPOG did (cut insulation, solder, heatshrink).

They are referring to the pressure switch side of the VTM wire, which does not get connected to anything.

Does anyone else know if this tap-in gives a good enough connection/ signal from the wires? Or is it really just better to splice in and solder?

I have one and it made the whole ordeal 100x easier. No contorting to get into the footwell and solder or vampire clipping all the wires, no playing with solder around other critical wires... I can install and uninstall the V-AFC in about 10 minutes right now. Though I have mine for sale now since I'm upgrading to the EFI PMS.

I would not use those taps- they are notoriously questionable with mixed wire gauges (or the wrong gauge) and will not provide a reliable connection. You might as well just twist and tape the connections together.

Solder and heat shrink if you are going to hack up your factory harness. Anything less is just lazy.

and there are alarm installers out there who use those for the ignition harness
