Stupid question...shifting on the tach??

ok ive noticed that some people...with no aftermarket cams or upgraded valve trains shift @8000rpm on the stock tach(5th Gen)....am I drinking too much or is does this sound right?

The stock tach is out of whack - that's why you're seeing 8000 RPM's. You really can't go much farther without bouncing.

what im tryin to ask is.....8K on the tach=7400 fuel cutoff???

Ok so if the stock tach is out of whack....then i should shift just before 8K which would be right around the fuel cutoff???

^^yes...b/c the shift will cause a delay adn too late of a shift...would cause the delay to make the needle hit the fuel cutoff.

my tach is dead on, so that doesn't mean all tachs are off. just go with what you are used to, once you find the fuel cutoff you know where it is.

No. no, no... to make it go higher just keep bouncing off the tach. The ECU will learn to go higher!

for a minute there i almost didnt see that "hidden disclaimer"
thanks for the info...oh and if you do hit fuel cut-off...would that be bad for the engine???

well fuel cutoff is there to protect it from causing any further damage by revving any higher. It's no tbad if you hit it once in a while, but you don't want to do it everytime you drive. Also, if you are running a nitrous kit, without a fuel safety switch, you will blow up your motor. IF you are still at WOT, and fuel cut hits, you will be spraying nitrous only into the motor, and then it goes BOOM.
