Strut problem?

OK, so I just left my buddy's shop where he changed my right CV axle. But as soon as I drove off I noticed my car was bouncing as if I had just cut the springs to lower it! I drive back to the shop and he tells me he's seen that before when the shocks are really old. Well, I believe they are the original shocks and the car is a 97 with about 165K on it, it's an SH if that makes any difference.

So is it possible that the old (but working) shocks went out just cuz the car was lifted for a while? Or will they eventually settle and function normally again?

At 165k they are almost certainly blown, if not a LONG time ago. To test, push down on the car and let it come back up, if it bounces up and down, it's blown. If it comes back up and stops with minimal bounce, its good. The SH has different front struts and springs, so keep that in mind when replacing them. You can switch over to base (non SH) springs and struts, but you CANNOT mix and match.

Some videos will show that its ok for the car to bounce a maximum of 3 times, however the preludes tighter suspension should not bounce more than once in my opinion.

Thanks for those vids Rycon, weird thing is I have the opposite problem...They are stiff as hell! If I push down I have to push down really hard and they don't really come back up. My car rides like I lowered it too damn much and it bounces off the bump-stops on really hard bumps. I also notice my car sits lower than it used to in the front. The rears are working fine it seams.

Thanks for the heads up on the fact that the shocks are different. I already put a WTB thread in the classifieds for some stock prelude springs so I could buy some KYB shocks and stuff them in the SH.
