Strange humming sound around 2500-3k rpm

So the other day it was about -5 outside so I started my car extra early. came back about 10 min later and ALL of the oil was on the ground and the car was making a terrible noise. it sounded like a bad belt would but alot louder. i turned off the car towed it to the shop and they found it was a bad oil cooler seal. They put a new one in and no more leak. motor did not make that horrible noise after they put oil in it. started driving it away and immediatly i noticed this humming noise..sounded like a jet engine around 2500 rpm and it goes away after 3500 rpm we'll say. its not super loud but i did notice it. I can really only hear it on the inside of the car. Any clue what it could be? the oil sprayed everywhere when it came out. and i would estimate the car was idling with no oil or very little oil for a few minutes.

*It more sounds like I have a turbo installed. but I dont. It's all stock.

well I don't know about the jet engine sound. Is it more like a humming sound. Well regardless have you put in aftermarket dual valve springs? Do you have a 5 gen because they came with a hydralic auto tensionor for the timing belt. I had the same problem. It would make this noise around the exact same rpm as you. The tensionor was going back and giving slack to the t-belt. send me a message and let me know if I was right. Ohhh and if you do have a hydrolic tensionor switch to the manual one from an h23 or a h22a1

everything is stock on the car. would no oil affect the t-belt tensionor? how would you fix this? I guess it could sound like a belt slipping. I would put my money on the alternator belt though. oil sprayed everywhere but I dont think it could have made it into the tbelt housing. ill check it out tomorrow.

Auto-tensioner noise doesn't make sense here. It creates more of a rattle than a hum.

Belt slipping also doesn't really fit, as that is more of a high pitched squeal.

You might want to do a compression test to see just how much damage your engine took while running with no oil.

i figured running with no oil would do some sort of damage. how does low compression create a hum? is it damaging to drive or just loosing power? i'm afraid to drive it.

Low compression wouldn't cause a hum, but if you have a dead cylinder or two the humming noise is the least of your problems. A compression test will just diagnose the overall health of the engine, so you can determine if it is fixable of not.

well i was going to bring it back on monday and have them look at it. it seems to have the same power it did when i took it in. It's just the strangest noise and my bet it the tech will not even hear it when he test rides it.

sounds like a stressed bearing to me, perhaps the lack of oil cause one to heat up to much and spoil.

I bet your right! I remember I had an old honda back in the day that had this noise similar to this. It was the main bearing in the tranny. f*cking hondas. I think its time for another car. all my honda's never really had problems, but when they did. they were BIG problems.

Yup it's true. When hondas have problems usually it's something big for me too. I never had problems with any of my hondas the only things that went wrong was the transmission / engine that was it and those are the most expensive fukrs of the lot

well the reason why I said tensioner is because the exact samething happend in my lude minus the oil, but only from 2500 to about 3500 it made this sound. maybe a diff sound then yours but i would have to hear it. Does it only do it in those rpm's and go away in higher rpm cause mine did. And actually mind did kinda of have a chatery sound. I guess something could have seized up in you motor come to think of it.
