Stock Radio Harness Question

So I have a 1997 Lude and the Stock Head Unit no longer works. So I bought a Stock HU out of a 2000 Prelude. When I went to swap them out, I realized the 2000 Head Unit had a different plug in the back so that my harness can't plug into it. So my question is: Is there an adapter that would just plug into my harness and then plug into the newer HU without having to cut my stock harness?

No. Match the wire colors exactly, if any are missing or different do not attempt cutting anything. Also, how would cutting the stock plug fix your issue? Did you get a pigtail with the new headunit?

No I didn't but I figured I could find one and just wire it into my stock harness. But the wire colors and combinations are the same in the 97-98 preludes and the 99-01 preludes?

Pictures or a name of what I'm looking for would help me out a lot instead of a generalized answer. If I can find it at walmart, then what should I be looking for?

i don't know if they make a harness that will go to a stock radio. but you could look at the aftermarket harnesses and see if they have you wire up the same colors for a 97 and a 01 so if you do want to splice yours you'll know the colors. or just buy aftermarket radio w/harness.

There are no adapters to convert a 97-98 harness to mate with a 99-01 head unit.

Aftermarket are cheap (affordable) now a day. Y bother with stock unit? Get something ith mp3 capability, get harness at walmart. Match colors, solders, plug and play. Simple. Better then stock.

Honda P/N 08A30-080-310. This adapter converts the vehicle harness 16P coupler to 20P. This is a genuine Honda accessory and can be purchased from Honda dealer in Japan. Contact a tuner shop or an importer and see if they can order for you.

Here is what you will need to do it

You need these two radio harnesses from Amazon
(this female harness attaches to the OEM male radio harness in the dash)
Metra 70-1720 Radio Wiring Harness For Honda/Acura 86-98
Price: $5.15 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25
Amazon Amazon

And this harness is a 99-04 male plug reverse harness that plugs into the back of the radio)
Metra 71-1721 Reverse Wiring Harness for 1998-up Honda/Acura Vehicles Factory Radio
Price: $10.16 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25
Amazon Amazon

Then splice the two together
I know for a fact that this will work because I did this for a friend with a '98SH. Also on peepee.com, BDoggPrelude has a DIY 03CR-V radio install in his '98 (he installed a double-din 2003 CR-V EX radio in his '98 base (because he wanted the tape deck and CD changer simultaneously but he did have an issue with the dimmer not working, but that will not apply to you since you are using a prelude radio)
