I've noticed that shifting from 3th to 4th takes a longer time for the tranny to actually engages into 4th........ Like maybe half a second slower compared to 1-2 or 2-3.............
Does that happen to u as well?
I am guessing that it has to do with the gearing between the 3th and 4th gear, which is a big gap.......
weird.. my 3rd to 4th is the fastest. or at least i think so. I dunno..

That's my fastest shift, very very short.

eh i think mine shifts the same in every gear. Its just that 4th gear sucks and doesnt pull as hard as anyother gear. The rpm falls too much. 4th gear is the worst, if it was a little shorter that would be ideal

Sorry of this is a tad OT, but Solo: what are your specific mods to get that time? Not seeing decent/good times in quarter miles from SS ludes is sorta keeping me down.

i know i get discouraged sometimes b/c the SS is slow compared to celica GTS and stuff, but beating cars up in top end really get me up anyways, i have an Iceman CAI and Greddy Power Extreme Catback. The night i ran that time, I removed my spare and 12" single sub box. shifting at 8k RPM. running on stock tires w/ 31 PSI in front tires, 40 PSI in rears. the temperature was 54 degrees F. i ran against a stock mitsubishi GSX auto who ran a 15.3. its okay tho, b/c i beat my share of cars, including a stock GST top end (60-110 MPH). happy "SS" luding

Yeah, it bugs me sometimes reading about it, but when reality kicks in, it really doesn't seem slower than the other cars. In fact, only a handful of cars have really pulled on me (and I stress handful which should have pulled on me anyways ie. mustang gt, cobra, 540i etc..). I'm just wondering what kind of times I would pull in my 00' lude just with AEM CAI. 15.5 seems damn good for a SS imho. Pulleys and vafc should bring that down definitely to low 15's. Now that's almost unheard of....
arrrrrrrrrmand.......... geez how many "r"s do u need in ur freakin name....
Neways....... just get some more power mods and u'll be much more impressed than just an intake........
Granted the AEM CAI did do improvements, decent actually, but like u and me or anybody else here, u will enjoy and love ur car more once u get more power mods.......

i think you'd run a high 15. in my SS for some reason, i hate driving in "auto" mode b/c it shifts waaayy too early in 1st gear and drops out of VTEC. but anyways, i hope to hit low 15s sometime soon w/ headers + pullies + simple weight reduction + cold weather and dont forget, the best mod for your car is the driver

yah, good call. got any pics of ur car? how come you weren't at the last bay area prelude meet?.....or were u?? what part of san jose r u from?..............and umm....yeah, SS shifting is an acquired skill, rather than a learned one....just get the feel for downshifting and gassing at the same time to make the transition smooth....
